Attendance:     Bill Peterson, Chair

Guest:  Tom Gumpel

  • Call to Order:  7:02 pm
  • Public comments or questions:  None
  • Minutes:  The chair called for corrections of the minutes from the April 21, 2009 meeting.  The minutes were adopted with corrections.
  • Correspondence:  None
  • Old business:  The Town has sent a letter to the tenant of the former Rosie’s Diner to follow up on the status of the existing lease.
  • Official name for the property:  The committee suggested several possible names for the property.  The are as follows:
  • North Stonington Hewitt Preserve
  • Old Plans
  • Hewitt Acres
  • The Flora A. Hewitt Preserve
  • The Hewitt Family Preserve
  • The Hewitt Farm Preserve
  • The Hewitt Nature Preserve
Motion:  to name the property The Hewitt Farm Preserve.  Vote:  9-1
  • Recommendations for land use:  The committee made several edits and amendments to the list of recommendations.
Motion:  to forward to the Board of Selectman the Recommendations for Use as amended.  Vote:  10-0
  • Botanical Society Survey Update:  Rob Evans reported that 12 people from the Connecticut Botanical Society will be surveying The Hewitt Farm Preserve on July 18, 2009.  The Chair added that any committee members who wished to attend were welcome.
  • Penfield House Recommendation:  Curtis Moussie reported that he had contacted Bob Penfield about our request for a plot plan of his intended uses.  
  • The Chair reported that Mark Perkins will attend the next committee meeting on June 16, 2009.
  • New Business:  Bridge:  The Boy Scouts may assist in the building of a wood over the Shunock near the cemetery.
  • Public Comment:  Guest, Tom Gumpel suggested that the committee take advantage of outside organizations for the management of some uses for the property such as Farmers Markets and camping.
  • Call to Adjourn:  8:20 pm
