Correspondence:
Joe Cassata had a letter to Governor Malloy requesting that the Bonding Commission mover forward in releasing funding for various projects. This would include funding for the STEAP Grant promised to North Stonington for the water line extension. State Representatives have been urging their constituent communities to sign and send the letters to the Governor’s office to release funds. Each Committee member supported the request and signed the letter.
Public Comment. None
Old Business:
Silver Petrucelli had forwarded 3 schemes with building elevations to the Committee for review. However, the floor plans were not what the Committee had agreed upon. The Committee was able to agree that the elevations for Scheme B appeared to the better of the 3, but could not make any decisions based on what had been provided for floor plans. It was also unclear as to whether or not the elevations were just conceptual, Silver Petrucelli did not indicate. The buildings, as presented in the elevation schemes, were not acceptable to the Committee and would not meet Planning and Zoning regulations.
A conference call with Silver Petrucelli is scheduled for Sept 5. This will be one of the main speaking points of the call.
A joint meeting with Silver Petrucelli, Boards of Selectman and Finance had been scheduled for Sept 8. It was decided by the Committee to cancel that meeting and reschedule once there was more definitive and accurate information from Silver Petrucelli.
New Business:
On August 21 Mark Perkins, Joe Cassata, Jon Bosma, Bob Shabunia and Charlie Steinhart V toured two fairly recently constructed fire stations, one in Bethany and one in Woodbridge.
Bob presented a slide show of the tours.
Bethany is a rural community with a population of about 4800. The town covers 21.6 sq. miles. Their building is an all steel structure that was constructed about 8 years ago.
Woodbridge is a more suburban community covering approximately 19.3 sq.miles, with a population over 9800. Woodbridge’s apparatus bays are a steel structure. The administrative offices/living space are traditional construction. There building was constructed in the last 6 or so years.
The group was able to see what worked well and not so well for each of these communities and came away with some good insights as far as what could be achieved with this project.
Motion to adjourn:
Motion to adjourn made by Joe Cassata, second by Charles Steinhart V. Meeting adjourned at 8:52
