Regular Meeting
October 27, 2016 @ 6:00 pm
Minutes

Mission: For the development, conservation, supervision, and regulation of natural and historic
resources, including water resources, within its territorial limits. (adopted September 2007)

Call to order:  6:02 p.m.
Roll Call:  
Present:  Bill Ricker, Arnie Vlieks, Doug Farrand, Steve Colgan, Mike Charnetski
Regrets:  Tony Rose

Citizen Comments:  None

Review of September minutes:  Accepted as written

Ongoing Business:

• Stewart Hill Preserve Trail – Connectivity to Narragansett Trail has been GPS’ed and sent to
back to the state with signage approved in September.
   Article was in The Day

• No response from chairman of Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA). Letters sent
February, June  and again on September 1 . Chair’s promised response never received.
o Shawn Murphy will call to WPCA to discuss.

• No response from Mashantuckets Natural Resources Dept in 3 yrs.

• Still waiting for folders on parcels #8101 and 1857. An additional folder for Firefly Farm LLC
still in process.
 
• Notable Tree progress. See print out from Arnie.
o Schedule next work day.
o Bill measured tree (white birch has been cut down)
o Bill and Arnie to continue the work

• Chester Maine Bridle Trail progress: On hold till BOS reviews all deeds.


New Business:  

• Calendar sold 58 to date, 5 freebees to EDC. 87 to go.   Making good progress!

• Letter & map from Dick Cooper (Hewitt Farm Committee) regarding naming of tributary
along Chester Maine Rd.  Chestermain Creek was agreed to – north and south for the two
branches

• Request from Hilaire Cody to speak on his behalf @ P&Z meeting on gift to NSCLA
November 3.  The commission agreed to support the application.  Bill will attend the
meeting.

• Potential alternate member.  We will wait a month before we reach out.  No one could
recall his name but he works for Jonathan Edwards Winery.
 
• Steve will be out of Town for the next meeting – someone else will need to take notes.  

Correspondence:

• Jen Raggon has asked if we would co-sponsor a meeting at Wheeler HS (March?) on climate
change and how to minimize it.  Jen did not come to the meeting.  Should we co-sponsor?
(Currently we don’t know the ask – so Bill to follow-up)
