Meeting Minutes
Mission: For the development, conservation, supervision, and regulation of natural and historic resources, including water resources, within its territorial limits. (adopted September 2007)
Call to Order: 6:05 pm

Review of July minutes (sent via e-mail): accepted as written
Citizen Comments - none
Ongoing Business:
- Stewart Hill Preserve Trail –
State has approved spur (Patchogue forest).
- Spur connector to Narragansett (Blue) trail has been completed (~ 200 yards).
DEEP is collecting all trail information for state on website
- Need to measure GPS coordinates and convey information to DEEP.
Discussion of what trail markers/signs are needed and where should they be placed.
Suggestions include:
- Double sided sign with directional arrows: “Spur to blue trail” or “Spur to Narragansett Trail” on Stewart hill preserve
- Similar sign at intersection on blue trail reading: “Spur to Stewart Preserve / Wyassup road access”
Need to get The Day to cover – email sent to Nate Lynch – photographer requested.
- Bill Richter hand-delivered a letter to MPTN Natural Resources Committee on trail access (c/o Mike Boland) – they still haven’t met ( > 3 years since they have met).
- Wyassup Lake Road CE’s: Parcel #8101 and #1857 folders – still waiting. Nita Kincaid needs to finish the folders 1st .
- Notable Tree progress
No progress since previous meeting.
Discussion on what to do with data collected to date.
Suggestion to send to state database – Action: Mike Charnetsky
- Chester Maine Bridle Trail progress.
- Recent town council meeting included assertion by property owners that Kettelhut acted illegally in transferring ownership of conservation easement to town.
- All trail work suspended until further notice.
- Calendar printing is complete and delivered. Bill shared samples for viewing and solicited for assistance in selling copies for fundraising.
- Proposal submitted by Bill Richter to renew Land Conservation Commission Membership and using conservation commission funds for dues.
- Bill also communicated opportunity to attend CACIWK (Connecticut Association of Conservation and Inland Wetlands Commissions) conference Nov. 12th, which includes multi-track continuing education opportunities.
Discussion of other conservation opportunities might be addressed in the near term since Chester Maine Bridle trail work has been suspended. – Look for trail maintenance/repair needs in town network.
New/Future Business:
- Review Town Developments – (scope: Any new development/subdivision composed of >/+ 3 properties)
- Ongoing Conservation Commission member development – Review flow charts for Conservation Commission remit/scope.
- Considerations for 2017 calendar planning (suggestion submitted to consider theme of before/after (historical/modern) photos for town landmarks and properties.
