MINUTES
Attendees:
First Selectmen Nicholas Mullane and Robert Congdon. Selectmen Michael Sinko, Lynwood Crary from Preston, and Selectmen Bob Testa and Mark Donahue from North Stonington. The meeting was called to order at 6:37 PM.
1. Joint Meeting with the North Stonington Board of Selectmen – Regional
Collaboration
Discussion of Common Interests
• Health Department, Officials
• Purchasing
• Sharing Equipment & Facilities
• Ethics Commission
• Dog Pound/Animal Control Officers
• Planner
• Fire Marshal
• Highway Wash Station
• Tribal Issues
• Public Safety/Police
• Education
After General Discussion it was determined that there was a great similarity between the towns and many opportunities to investigate for mutual benefit of sharing cost savings, efficiency and better services.It was agreed to explore interest in a joint towns committee of four (4) members from each town, persons not presently holding offices to promote the study.
Three (3) major subjects were chosen to start with:
1. Ethic Commission-The Preston Ethics Commission Chairperson will possibly attend the next North Stonington Selectmen’s Meeting
2. Dog Pound/Animal Control Officers
3. Fire Marshal
Other Actions
A charter of the Committee to be drafted for purpose/intent/operations
