Minutes
North Stonington Affordable Housing Advisory Committee
July 20, 2010
In attendance:   Michelle Brophy, James Scaramozza, Tim Pelland, Stella Neves-Elbaum, Mary Ann Ricker
Tim Pelland, co chairman, called the meeting to order at 6:05 PM.It was moved, seconded and carried to approve the minutes of the June 15, 2010 meeting.
The committee discussed the June 29, 2010, meeting with the Board of Selectmen, and their recommendation that we prepare an educational brochure to explain the role of Affordable Housing to the community.
The committee then reviewed a draft of a brochure written and designed by Michelle Brophy.  Some minor changes and additions were discussed, and the committee agreed to have a completed version by our next meeting on Aug.17th.  Once we’ve completed the brochure, we will meet with the Board of Selectmen to present the document, and to discuss printing budgets and distribution of the brochure. We will request to be included on the agenda for the BOS meeting Aug.24th. The committee is planning a joint session with Planning & Zoning and the Board of Selectmen, once we have the brochure approved.
The committee will also contact Juliet Leeming, North Stonington’s Town Planner, for Senior Housing regulations and design standards for our review.
James Scaramozza will meet with Nick Mullane to discuss the Old Saybrook regulations that he had offered to share with the committee.
Mary Ann Ricker will get copies of the Affordable Housing Survey to the faith-based leaders in the community who had requested them.
Michelle Brophy developed a power point presentation for the committee to use as a tool to explain Affordable Housing to community groups.  The committee will expand upon that presentation and include Senior Housing regulations and design standards.
Tim Pelland volunteered to attend a meeting of the Stonington Affordable Housing Committee, to learn how they are addressing the issues we face, and to share that information with us.
We agreed to include Julianne Hanckel, the New London Day reporter for North Stonington, on the email notices to attend our meetings.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm.
The next meeting will be Aug. 17, 2010 at 6:00 pm, Elementary School Library.
Respectfully submitted,
Stella Neves-Elbaum, recording secretary
