Parks and Recreation Meeting
Minutes of Monday, June 3, 2013
High School/Lunch Room, 6pm

Acceptance of Minutes:  4/22/13
(RM) Rita Mullin made a motion to accept the minutes of 4/22/13 as is.
(SC) Sergio Coviello seconds the motion.

                CARNIVAL – Public opening dates:
                July 3, 2013, 5PM to 10PM
                July 4, 2013, Noon to 10PM
                July 5, 2013, Noon to 10PM
                July 6, 2013, Noon to 10PM

Board of Selectman have approved the carnival license with the allowance of shuttle buses.
The Police and Fire will make any calls in regard to weather related cancellations.  It will only
Take ONE of them to determine it will shut down due to weather.  

The Parks Department has received a request to allow the carnival workers to be able to sleep at the Park while the carnival is on site.  Parks Director Marty Tilton is recommending a NO, Operations Director recommends a NO, Police Chief Michael Murphy recommends a NO, Fire Chief Bill Warnock recommends a no box trailers.  Chief Murphy has done local research and other parks do NOT allow sleeping while on site while some commercial properties do allow.  However Chief Murphy states that there has been noted by those communities had an increase in thefts.  Also Chief Murphy stated that a carnival worker had to be restrained by 6 workers in past years because “he wasn’t taking his meds”.

Marty Tilton reports that the 4th of July Committee only has 6 volunteers but has put out a plea for help to the community to sign up to help them.

A MOTION was made by Mike Fitzpatrick –
        To deny the carnival workers to sleep at any parks in North Reading during the period
        of July 1st  through July 7th  2013.
