The Newtown Water and Sewer Authority held a regular meeting on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Commerce Road.  Marianne Brown called the meeting to order at 7:30PM.

Present –Marianne Brown, Lou Carbone, Carl Zencey
Absent – Phil Cruz, Dick Zang, Richard Conte, Alan Shepard

Also Present:  Julio Segara of United Water Suez and Fred Hurley, Public Works Director

Public Participation – NONE
Approval of the Minutes – Tabled to next meeting

OLD BUSINESS
Sports Academy/FFH Sewer Benefit Assessment – Tabled to next meeting

On-Call Contract – There is a standard AIA contract from Stearns and Wheeler as well as Fuss and O’Neill.  Fred Hurley suggests that there are no glaring differences in the contracts.  Both would be beneficial for the WSA to sign.  Tabled the next meeting.

Gallons processed vs gallons billed study – The video taping did not show any major problems.  There is a partial report at this time but the final report is not ready.  Only a small area of the sewer system was videoed under this report.

NEW BUSINESS
Eaton Center – We are sending the plans to Kerin & Fazio to get a benefit assessment.  The main building itself doesn’t look like there will be additional square footage but there is a new building going up that will need a benefit assessment – Tabled to the next meeting

Annual Base Compensation Adjustment – Tabled to the next meeting

Report by Public Works Director –Most of the activity is from FFH.  The sports academy has hooked up into the sewer system.  Once the water meter goes in, the owners receive the bills directly, not the town.  The WSA is responsible up to the meter pit and from the pit into the building is the owners’ responsibility.

Report by United Water Suez – The plant overall is running well – about 92% nitrogen removal.

Approve pending invoices – NONE

Having no further business meeting was adjourned 8:42 PM
Arlene Miles, Clerk
