The Ad Hoc Tick Borne Disease Action Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the C.H. Booth Library, Main Street, Newtown, CT

Present:  Mark Alexander, Kirk Blanchard, Neil Chaudhary, David Delia, Robert Grossman, Kim Harrison, Peter Licht, Michele McLeod, George Miller, and Maggie Shaw; Absent: Mary Gaudet-Wilson;  Also Present: Pat Boily and David Shugarts.

Call to Order:  Dr. Grossman called the meeting to order at 8:15 p.m.

Approval of Minutes:  The approval of the October 27, 2010 minutes were tabled.  

Discussion of the Committee Function:  

Dr. Grossman opened discussion of the structure of the committee and asked for a vote recommending that the committee remain as is.

*Ms. Gaudet-Wilson’s vote was based on an e-mail sent by her.

Mr. Shugarts asked if minority and majority have an interest in continuing with a consensus (unified) report.  Dr. Grossman said the minority opinions will be presented in the report.  

Ms. Harrison discussed amended minutes not being reflected on the town website.  The clerk asked for any changes to be submitted so that the minutes can be reflected correctly on the website.  It was decided that changes will be submitted at the next meeting to discuss.  The minutes on the website can be amended accordingly.

Education Section – Review Content, Vote on Recommendations

The committee discussed, in detail, the Education section of the report and then voted on the recommendations.  It was the consensus of the committee to allow Ms. Gaudet-Wilson to provide her votes electronically by Saturday, November 20, 2010, since she is out of the state.  The votes are attached to these minutes

1.      The TBDAC recommends that the town engage in a public information and education campaign (PI&E) to run at least annually (with some periodic continuation of seasonally relevant messages).  Ideas for such a strategy are contained in this report.

4.      The TBDAC recommends that the messages be disseminated in such a way to reach the maximum number of residents and that there should therefore be a wide variety of paid (e.g. billboards, radio) and free/minimum cost (e.g. banners, flyers, signs) media used.
