The Ad Hoc Tick Borne Disease Action Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the C.H. Booth Library, Main Street, Newtown, CT

Present: Robert Grossman, Michele McLeod, Mark Alexander, Kirk Blanchard, Pat Boily, David Delia, Maggie Shaw, Mary Gaudet-Wilson, Dr. Peter Licht, Kim Harrison, and Neil Chaudhary.                        
Not Present: George Miller
Also Present: David Shugarts and Kendra Bobowick from the Newtown Bee

Call to Order:  Dr. Grossman called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m.

Approval of Minutes:  Mr. Alexander made a motion to approve the Minutes of May 19, 2010 as amended:  Under Final Comments add:  “It was decided that Commissioners could speak on this as long as they preface their remarks by adding that they are speaking as an individual not as a representative of the Committee”, Seconded by Dr. McLeod.  The vote was unanimous

Discussion of Deer Tick Borne Disease Subcommittee Report

Mr. Alexander continued discussion the deer management section of the report.  The Commission went through the report, discussing it as they went.  Among other items discussed was hunting on private property and advising landowners of what is permitted.  Also reproduction and the effects of nutrition on population,  possible promotion of recreational hunting.  Mr. Kirk suggested adding a course in butchery.  Advice will be sought of the Town Attorney regarding liability on private land.  Dr. Grossman suggested that they should vote on this at the next meeting when the information is fresh in their minds.

Final Comments:  

Motor vehicle/deer accidents will be discussed at the next meeting, followed by forestry.  Mr. Chaudhary will have the motor vehicle accident report ready and e-mailed before the meeting.  Dr. Licht suggested that the Introduction should be addressed after the other sections have been finalized.

Executive Session:  None

Adjournment:  Mr. Alexander motioned to adjourn at 9:36 p.m.  Mr. Chaudhary seconded the motion.  The motion carried unanimously.
