SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
June 1, 2010
A Special Town Meeting of the Town of Newtown was held at the Newtown Municipal Center Room, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT, on June 1, 2010. The meeting was called to order by Town Clerk Debbie A. Aurelia at 8:02 a.m. with 1 person in attendance after which she read the warning of the meeting. Selectman William F L Rodgers nominated First Selectman E Patricia Llodra as Moderator, seconded by Debbie Aurelia.
Hearing no other nominations First Selectman Pat Llodra started the meeting.
First Selectman Llodra stated that the Charter requires that a Town Meeting be held after a second budget referendum has not passed and allows for citizens to petition for a referendum for a budget vote. The Town Attorney advised that CGS 7-7 allows for an item to be removed from the Town Meeting enabling the Board of Selectman to send an item directly to a referendum without the necessity of petitions which is the intention of the Board of Selectman today.
Selectman William Rodgers made a motion for the next budget Referendum to be held on June 8, 2010 with the hours of voting from 6a.m. to 8 p.m. 2nd by Town Clerk, Debbie Aurelia.
Hearing no public participation Mr. Rodgers motioned to adjourn the meeting 2nd by Debbie Aurelia.
