The Board of Selectmen held a budget meeting on February 1, 2005 at the C. H. Booth Library, Main Street, Newtown, CT. First Selectman Rosenthal called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.

ACCOUNT 320 FIRE DEPARTMENTS
Selectman Brimmer moved Account 320 Fire in the amount of $1,356,895. Motion seconded.
After some discussion, it was decided to remove $180,000 for refurbish of Tanker #9 and remove $164,000 for refurbish of Engine 111 and finance this expenditure by borrowing, since the life of the vehicles will be at least ten years.
Selectman Brimmer moved to amend by decreasing line item 320-5080 Capital to $208,595. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.
Selectman Brimmer moved the following amendments: decrease line item 2012 to $115,000 and decrease line item 2015 to $55,500 and decrease line 2022 to $20,000 and decrease line 2029 to $20,000 and decrease line 2035 to $25,000 and decrease line 3050 to $54,000 and decrease line 4001 to $15,000 and decrease line 5080 to $206,095. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.

ACCOUNT 340 CANINE CONTROL
Selectman Brimmer moved Account 340 Canine Control in the amount of $132,733. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.
After some discussion it was decided to remove the request for one new part-time person in the amount of $9,984. Ms. Breyan will determine the corresponding decrease for vaccinations and will get back to the Finance Director.
Selectman Brimmer moved to amend by decreasing line 1001 Salaries to $85,839. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.

ACCOUNT 370 HEALTH
Selectman Brimmer moved Account 370 Health in the amount of $268,865. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.
Health Director Donna McCarthy advised that the increase in the request for this year is due to the spending down of the Unreserved Fund Balance, which in the past has been used to keep their budget request at $225,000.
Selectman Brimmer moved to amend by reducing Account 370 Health to $250,000. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.
ACCOUNT 350 INSURANCE
Selectman Bojnowski moved Account 350 Insurance in the amount of $811,224. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.
ACCOUNT 330 EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT/DIVE TEAM
Selectman Bojnowski moved Account 330 Emergency Management in the amount of $25,768. Motion seconded.
It was noted that the line for clerical does not include $1,500 for a Deputy Director and needs to be adjusted.

Selectman Brimmer moved to amend by decreasing line 5080 Capital to $3,200. Motion seconded and unanimously carried.
