The Board of Selectmen held a regular meeting on Monday, June 2, 2003 at the C. H. Booth Library, Main Street, Newtown, CT.  First Selectman Rosenthal called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. 
 
PRESENT:  First Selectman Herbert C. Rosenthal, Selectman William Brimmer and Selectman Joseph Bojnowski 
 
ALSO PRESENT:  Finance Director Ben Spragg, two members of the public and one member of the press 
 
VOTER PARTICIPATION:  Ms. Barbara O’Connor, Little Brook Lane asked about property assessment, in her opinion 65% increase is discriminatory to the owners of small homes and to the elderly.  First Selectman Rosenthal explained that smaller homes have a larger increase because they are more attractive to new comers that bid up to get into Newtown resulting in inflation of their market value. 
 
COMMUNICATIONS:  Communication from the Town Clerk 
 
ADD TO THE AGENDA:  First Selectman Rosenthal made a motion to add to the agenda a discussion about the Letter to the Editor by Ms. Ruby Johnson published at the Newtown Bee.  Motion seconded and unanimously carried. 
 
ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES:  First Selectman Rosenthal moved to approve the minutes of May 19, 2003.  Motion seconded and carried k3-0. 
 
ADDITION TO AGENDA:  First Selectman Rosenthal made a motion to send a letter to the Newtown Bee in response to the Letter to the Editor by Ms. Ruby Johnson dated May 17, 2003, seconded and unanimously carried. 
 
NEW BUSINESS: 
 
Driveway Bond Releases/Extensions 
Selectman Brimmer moved to  release three driveway bonds as outlined on Attachment A.  Motion seconded and unanimously carried. 
 
Dispatchers Contract 
First Selectman Rosenthal made a motion to approve new Dispatchers Contract as shown on Attachment B, motion seconded and unanimously carried.
