                                   BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS
MINUTES

SPECIAL MEETING OF THE TOWN OF NEWTOWN BOARD OF POLICE COMMISSIONERS HELD ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2008

At 7:38 P. M., the meeting was called to order.

Present was Chair Person Carol Mattegat, Commissioners Robert Connors, Brian Budd and Bruce Walczak. Also present was Chief Kehoe and Captain Rios. Two members of the public were present.

At 7:40 P. M., a motion was made by Commissioner Walczak to accept the resignation of PPO David Donahoe, seconded by Commissioner Connors and carried by unanimous vote.

Discussion ensued among the Board regarding current pending strategic projects of the Board.

At 7:45 PM Commissioner Giannini arrived.

The Board identified several strategic projects underway with timeline goals:
1.      Exit Interview Policy (Final draft due next meeting-Commissioner Giannini)
2.      Traffic Calming Procedures and Guidelines (6 month report due to Leg. Council-Full Board)
3.      Chief’s Annual Review Process (Jan. 09-Commissioners Walczak and Giannini)
4.      Space Needs and Improvements to Police Facilities (No timetable until decision of Board of Selectman is finalized)

Discussion ensued about Traffic Calming Guidelines.  The amended and adopted ordinance was passed out to the Board.  Commissioner Walczak will develop a business itinerary of tasks to be worked on and report back to the Board.  Chief Kehoe will send out to the Commissioners a copy of the Town of New Canaan’s Traffic Calming Guidelines.

At 8:49 P. M., a motion was made by Commissioner Walczak to adjourn the special meeting, seconded by Commissioner Giannini, and carried by unanimous vote.
