Newtown Pension Committee
Minutes
May 19th, 2014

The Newtown Pension Committee met on Monday May 19th, 2014 in the Lower Level Conference Room of Town Hall South. The meeting was called to order at 7:32pm.  

Present: Barbara Bloom, Tom Murtha, Dunham Smith, Charles Farfaglia,   

Also in attendance: Carole Ross, HR, John Vaccaro, Joe Tatusko, Chris DeLaura and Emily Boothroyd of Westport Resources.

A presentation was made by Westport Resources through the last year.  The review included performance, both equity and bonds, and a discussion on Exchange Traded Funds.

After discussion a motion was made by Mr. Smith to take the recommendation of Westport Resources and move forward the ETF strategy with 10% of the funds.  This is allowed in the current Pension Plan document.  The motion was seconded by Mr. Farfaglia and moved as passed.  

As per the request of the committee, Westport Resources will meet again in November to report on the progress of the investment.

The election of officers took place with Tom Murtha and Dunham Smith remaining in their positions as Chair and Vice-chair.

The minutes of March 17th were accepted as written.

An invoice from TR Paul for services in the amount of $880 was passed as presented.

Mr. Smith requested information regarding the Defined Contribution Plan and School Security Officers progress.  Mrs. Ross stated that only new hire non-union could be in the DC plan as of yet. There has been no progress with the unions.  The Chief was still accepting applications for the SSO’s until May 30th.
