                MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE NEWTOWN PARKS AND RECREATION’S
DOG PARK SUBCOMMITTEE

Subcommittee Members:, Catty Garcia, Kathryn Simonds, Cat Fedorcheck, Benay Yaffe, Ruth Hutchinson, Susan Washburn, Monica Roberto
  • Strut Your Mutt: Total funds raised = $2,267. Attended by 200+ people and 110 dogs.
  • MyPlace Fundraiser raised $150. Second MyPlace event scheduled for Sept. 15th. Committee will create a poster to advertise the event, to be hung on MyPlace door and around town
  • Constant Contact: Group will set up free 60-day trial before deciding whether to take out annual subscription. Yaffe/Roberto offered to head up email marketing/newsletter efforts.
  • Postcard: Reggiano to get three price quotes for printing 2,000 post cards, 4/1 color. 1,600 to be mailed to dog license list and the rest to be distributed by the group at various upcoming events. Goal is to generate awareness of website to get people to sign up for our mailing list.  Postcard design to be tweaked to include: “Stay in the loop” with leash graphic.
  • Dog Days: Scheduled for Sept. 12th at the Pavillion. Reggiano to circulate Dog Days letter and vendor sign up to committee for comment
  • Upcoming events/tabling opportunities/fundraisers:
  • July 24th potential tabling opportunity at Lexington Gardens
  • July 10th K9 Festival sponsored by UConn Ffld. Cty. Extension Ctr. Simonds/Hutchinson to attend.
  • BBQ to piggyback off August 19th PRC concert.
  • Labor Day Parade. Garcia to find out if dog park subcommittee can march
  • Sept. 11: Dog Days Event
  • Sept. 15th My Place Fundraiser
  • Courtyard fundraiser at Newtown Youth Academy. Fedorcheck checking on availability.
  • Rock concert at Blue Z during fall or winter. Washbarn to coordinate.
