Employee Safety Committee
June 6, 2012
Newtown Municipal Center
In attendance: Carole Ross, Chairman, Bill Halstead, Carol Kochiss, George Tammaro from CIRMA, Linda O’Masta from Rose & Kiernan.
Mrs. Ross opened the meeting at 10:10am.
Review of injury reports: A review of the injury reports took place with fifteen injuries taking place which is a sizable increase from the normal number. A discussion took place regarding the incidents and cost including CIRMA’s reserve. The highest costs were associated with the Public Works Department. No specific events occurred during this time period i.e. storms or town wide events which could account for the increase in injuries.
Training: The only training noted was Fork Lift Training by Parks and Recreation. Mr. Tammaro did state that the Custodians for the schools were having an OSHA 10 certification class. Mrs. Ross will contact Gino to see if our maintainers could attend as well. .
Old business: Mrs. Ross has sent the traffic issue at the Municipal Center to the Chief who has forwarded it off to the Police Commission for their action.
Building inspections/concerns: The Public Works inspection was conducted at the last meeting. There were several issues and all have been corrected. The Safety Committee will be notified of the Fire Marshals building inspections in August.
Mrs. Kochiss stated her concerns about the copier being located in her office at the Police Department with potential health hazards. It was suggested she contact Donna Culbert of the Health Department.
The next meeting will be held on September 5th at the Municipal Center
