Employee Safety Committee
Minutes  June 8th, 2011 10:00am
Municipal Center – Meeting Room

In attendance: Carole Ross, Chairman, Linda Omasta, agent from Rose & Kiernan, Bill Halstead, Rob Sibley, Arlene Miles

Mrs. Ross opened the meeting at 10:00am.

Review of injury reports:       This quarter 9 accidents were reported.  These included several accidents which were due to slips & falls and others that should have been avoided.  Further investigation is being done by CIRMA and the department heads.  One employee contracted poison ivy. Mr. Sibley suggested that if the employees know they have been in contact, they should immediately rinse themselves with cold water.  He will send a flyer to Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Miles to share with the departments.  

Training:       Mr. Halstead reported the fire departments had training in Rapid Intervention, certified by the State, Food Handling by the Health Department and National incident management training which the members conducted on-line. Mrs. Miles reported that the Public Works Department had training on chain saw safety and flagger training through a Public Works Association.  The Police Department is currently undergoing recertification.

Inspections:  The Fire Marshal’s office will conduct the annual town-wide building inspections.  Members of the Safety Committee will be invited to participate.

It was decided to hold the next meeting at the Sandy Hook Fire House and then walk over to the Senior Center for their inspection on September 7th.
