Personnel

Manning levels unique to each town and region, more dependent on services that are requested to be delivered. Sixty sq miles, 276 road miles, highways. 27,000 residents, plus service population of people who pass through town. On Rt 25 alone 25-30k cars per day.~ Five sectors, similar to fire, designed around response time. We won the motorcycle based on our traffic safety initiatives.

Goal for headcount is 47. Shooting for 7 officers on patrol day and evening, 6 at night. Contractual minimum is 4. Target is 5, one for each sector. Total 26 patrol officers. Plus 3 detectives, 3 school resource officers, 1 narcotics officer and 2 traffic officers. Twelve command is one chief, one captain two lieutenants and eight sergeants - one per shift required. State of CT basic minimum training required is 60 hours every three years.

Calls for service increasing every year. 12% over the last two years alone.

Three new officers planned to hire and attend the academy in April for 22 weeks. 42 on staff today, they would realistically hope to add one more in August to get to the 46 that is in the budget.

.
Police car replacement plan

Cars being replaced at 80-100k, 4 each year. Same plan as last year. Turning 25% of the fleet annually.

Mary Ann made a motion to move the proposed police budget as recommended by the BOF. Gary seconded. Mary Ann felt that they did what was asked in coming in flat and it makes sense. Gary felt that he would ere on the side of providing services the town wants rather than reducing the budget.
All in favor (3-0).

Gary made a motion to move the balance of the public safety budget forward as proposed by the BOF. Mary Ann seconded. Flat budget, reasonable requests.~
