~~~~~~~~
Old Business:
  • There are 2 open positions on the Sustainable Energy Commission.  In addition Ms. Hemingway will be sworn in for another term.
  • Middle School Roof Update – Mr. Holmes reported that the funding for the solar feasibility study was approved.  He also discussed 2 grants that are available to help fund the new roof.  One grant is for $750,000 and second grant is for $850,000.  There is a February 28th deadline for the feasibility study and one of the grant applications.   As other grants become available this will help fund the project.  Mr. Holmes also reported that there is a lot of support from the leaders in Newtown to follow the Middle School project through, as well as good collaboration with the Building and Site Committee.
Mr. Holmes suggested collaborating with the Fairfield Hills Authority and/or the Fairfield Hills Master Plan Review Committee.  He also felt it was a good idea to attend a FHMPRC meeting to discuss the group’s initiatives.
  • Energy Awareness Month- Mr. Holmes stated that March will be Energy Awareness Month.  The group would like Ms. Llodra to make a proclamation.  Since the Newtown Bee comes out on February 25th the proclamation should be before that date so it can be published in the Bee.  Ms. Galassi suggested doing a photo-op on Saturday, February 12th.   Mr. Homes said that the purpose of the photo-op is for publicity.  Mr. Merola suggested putting something in the Patch too.  Mr. Holmes suggested reaching out to Curtis Packaging.  They are a great example of a successful implementation.  When they brought renewable energy to their company their sales actually went up.  Mr. Holmes said that they might be a good partner for this publicity campaign.  Ms. Galassi suggested doing two PowerPoint presentations; one that could target business and one that could target residents.  Ms. Galassi presented 3 posters and a PowerPoint presentation that she created to help with Energy Awareness Month.  The group discussed the different slides and posters and made changes as necessary.
~~Next Meeting Date:
