- Review and discussion of Papa Al’s LLC 23 Barnabus Rd, Newtown, Ct.
The applicant is proposing to construct an exterior 18 foot square patio adjacent to the restaurant. The patio will be constructed of grass pavers which will minimize the impact of storm runoff and not adversely affect sanitary structures. The patio will be enclosed by a wrought iron railing to insure that the area for outdoor dining does not increase beyond the proposed area. The patio will allow for a handful of tables that face Barnabus Rd. and will be visible from traffic heading south on Route 25.
The DAB believes that the addition of a restaurant with an outdoor patio will be a welcomed addition to the neighborhood in and around Hawleyville. There are presently few dining options for citizens in that area of town without going into Bethel or Danbury and this applicant should provide a needed option for the district. The physical and visual impact of the patio as proposed is minimal and the benefits to the community are substantial. The DAB recommends that P & Z favorably consider the application as proposed.
