Meeting Minutes
The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, December, 2012, at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT.
Members Present: Jennifer Johnston, Robert Rabinowitz, Laura Lerman, Donna Mangiafico, Donna Monteleone Randle, Jennifer Rogers, Ted Kreinik, Robert Kaiser
Members Absent: Sharon Cohen,
Auxiliary Members Present: None
Guests: None
Jennifer Rogers called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.
- Minutes: Tabled
- Officers Report:
- Jen Johnston (Chair): Some members still need to be re-appointed, Town Council is meeting tonight to approve. Brookfield Film Festival has contacted Jen about promoting their event.
- Jen Rogers (Vice Chair): Lisa Scails was interviewed on the radio about HealingNewtown.
- Robert Rabinowitz (Secretary): Move meeting to HealingNewtown Arts Space – unanimous agreement – Robert to notify Town Clerk to change calendar.
- Treasurer’s Report (Donna Mangiafico): Financial update provided. Chamber of Commerce membership renewal ($75) is due. Vote for allocating the funds is tabled until next meeting.
- By Laws: any NCAC member should contact Donna M with any changes they request and Donna will update. Any final change request MUST be submitted before next meeting. Voting on By-Laws tabled until next meeting.
- Arts Festival: Artist & vendor applications are on the website. The next planning committee meeting is 1/23/13.
- Terry needs to submit budget.
- Cultural Arts Center: Future permanent space for HealingNewtown can hopefully be combined with the creation of a Cultural Arts Center for Newtown, location TBD but likely at Fairfield Hills. There was discussion that a future Cultural Arts Center could be dedicated in memory of 12/14/12 (to include performance space, activity space, sculpture garden, art gallery, and more).
- Grants & Scholarships: next round of NEA grants and CT State grants coming up in the spring.
- Subcommittee consists of Donna M, Donna R, Laura L & Sharon C… subcommittee to provide report & recommendations back to NCAC at February meeting
- Promotion of NCAC/Branding: working with other town commissions:
- Perhaps we invite them to a gathering at the HealingNewtown Arts Space
- Invite Arts Commission members to an evening at our new Arts Space
- Newsletter: Jen R – Newsletter subscriptions are up. Latest newsletter went out a week ago. A new newsletter will be coming out shortly.
- NCAC Website: Possible option to switch to same customized program to run the NCAC website that the Cultural Alliance of Western CT has created for HealingNewtown.org
- HealingNewtown Arts Space: Grand Opening is being planned for Thursday February 14th from 4 to 7pm.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:25 pm
Next Meeting: Tuesday, February 26th 2013, HealingNewtown Arts Space, 5 Queen Street, Newtown, CT at 7:30 PM.
