Meeting Minutes

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, 7:30 PM, at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT.

Members Present: Sharon Cohen, Jennifer Johnston, Ted Kreinik, Donna Mangiafico, Robert Rabinowitz, Donna Monteleone Randle, and Jennifer Rogers

Members Absent:  Rob Kaiser

Auxiliary Members Present: None

Guests:  None

Jennifer Rogers called the meeting to order at 7:36 PM.

Minutes:  The minutes of the February 28, 2012 meeting were approved as written.

Officer Reports: Jennifer Johnston welcomed new commission member Ted Kreinik.  Jennifer Rogers shared information about the “Live at the Edmond Town Hall” benefit for Edmond Town Hall Theatre.  The event was well attended, especially for a Monday night performance.

The following Newtown Arts Festival Committee Chairs were voted in as NCAC Auxiliary Members:  George Caracciolo, Burt DeMarche, Paul G. Mangiafico, Paul J. Mangiafico, Stacey Olszewski, Fran Pennarola, Terry Sagedy, and Ben Spragg.

Treasurer Report:  Donna Mangiafico will process check requests and deposits until a treasurer is recruited.  Donna will set up a meeting with the Finance Department to discuss the accounts and will submit a check request for Tracy Van Buskirk.  It was agreed, by unanimous vote, to disburse $500 to Tracy Van Buskirk (prize for winning the Arts Festival art contest).

Newtown Cultural Arts Center:  Robert Rabinowitz shared information about a recent meeting with Liz Stocker and Pat Llodra.  A feasibility study is required including short, mid, and long-range plans.  Ted Kreinik recommended asking for a liaison from town government to advise and assist with this process.  The subcommittee will meet again on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at noon, at My Place Restaurant.

Programs and Events:
  • Flagpole Radio Café – The March 24, 2012 show featuring Livingston Taylor was very well attended – sold out in fact.  Martin Blanco submitted a summary and financial report via email.
  • Pre-show Receptions – The March 24, 2012 Pre-show Reception attendance was fair compared to the number of ticket holders for the Flagpole show.  It was assumed that Flagpole ticketholders were hesitant to go to the Alexandria Room because they were worried about seating at the sold out show.  The NCAC members that were present at the Pre-Show Reception reported that there were many people there and the interview with Tracy Van Buskirk, Art Contest Winner, and other artists was entertaining.  Pre-show Receptions and their coordination will be discussed at future meetings.
  • Arts Festival – Donna Monteleone Randle discussed fundraising.  She distributed the fundraising package flyer and asked those present to help contact companies, friends, and family.  Donna will send everyone a cheat-sheet form to use.  Sharon Cohen will meet with Terry Sagedy to discuss the marketing plan/press Releases, etc.
Grants:  NCAC grant discussion was tabled until Jennifer Johnston meets with the town attorney.

Website: Rob Kaiser changed the NCAC website to word press.  Jen Rogers has been posting things and cleaning it up.

Public Participation: None

Other Business:  None

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Next Meeting:  Tuesday, April 24, 2012, 7:30 PM, Meeting Room 1, Newtown Municipal Center
