Meeting Minutes
The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, January 24, 2012,
7:30 PM, at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT.
Members Present: Sharon Cohen, Jennifer Johnston, Donna Mangiafico, Robert Rabinowitz, Donna Monteleone Randle, and Jennifer Rogers
Members Absent: Rob Kaiser
Auxiliary Members Present: Martin Blanco
Guests: Anne Haas, Ross Carley, Kristin Chiriatti, Kate Katcher, Pat Llodra

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:34 PM.
Minutes: Review of the December 22, 2011 minutes was tabled.
Officer Reports:
- Jennifer Johnston reported that she and Robert Rabinowitz met with Liz Stocker about an arts center in Newtown. Ms. Stocker will work with the NCAC to develop a plan. It was agreed that Stratford Hall would be a good location.
- It was agreed to vote Martin Blanco and Linda Watson in as NCAC Auxiliary Members as well as the Newtown Arts Festival Committee Chairs.
Treasurer Report: No report
Programs and Events:
- Flagpole Radio Café – Martin Blanco shared information about promotion/press.
- Pre-show Receptions – The February 4th pre-show reception will feature a Flagpole Photographers exhibit as well as a high school classical music trio.
- Arts Festival – Donna Mangiafico provided an update. Donna Monteleone Randle shared several fundraising ideas. The next Arts Festival meeting is Wednesday, February 8th, 7:30 PM, at the Mangiafico residence, 12 Merlins Lane, Newtown.
Grants: It was agreed to form a subcommittee to focus on grants.
Website: Jennifer Rogers and Sharon Cohen will work together to design a new website.
Public Participation:
- Kristin Chiriatti shared information about a new venture to open a nonprofit children’s museum, Everwonder, in Newtown. The museum will offer exhibits and varied hands-on activities. Fundraising efforts are underway. A meeting to share information about Everwonder will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012, 6:00 PM, at the Edmond Town Hall in the Alexandria Room.
- Kate Katcher discussed the Forum on Place-Making in the Arts hosted by the Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA). She stressed the importance of the NCAC’s participation in these series of forums. Kate also shared information the Play with your Food performance at the Stone River Grill. The next show is March 3rd.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
