Meeting Minutes
The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission held a meeting on Thursday, November 17, 2011, 7:00 PM, at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT.
Members Present: Martin Blanco, Jennifer Johnston, Rob Kaiser, Donna Mangiafico, Robert Rabinowitz, Donna Monteleone Randle, Jennifer Rogers, and Linda Watson
Members Absent: None
Auxiliary Members Present: None
Guests: Sharon Cohen, Stacey Olszewski, and Kate Katcher

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:07 PM.
Minutes: Review of the October 27, 2011 minutes was tabled.
Officer Reports:
Jennifer Johnston attended a strategic planning meeting with the HVCA and the State DECD Office of Culture and Tourism. She distributed information. Jennifer also reported that she attended a creative economy focus group discussion about business cooperation with arts. She will forward a link with details as soon as she receives it.
Jennifer Rogers shared information about the Newtown Chamber of Commerce’s Destination Newtown event. Jennifer and Kate Katcher attended and were able to network and collect 41 names to add to the subscriber list. Jennifer also reported that she contacted Shannon Hicks at the Newtown Bee about difficulty searching for events on the “Enjoy Calendar” listings.
Donna Mangiafico asked NCAC members to review the proposed meeting calendar for 2012. Members decided to move the meetings to the 4th Tuesday of each month and also changed the time to 7:30 PM.
Treasurer Report:
No report this month. Martin submitted expenses to Linda for the last Flagpole show. Linda reported that she has not received the bill for the September show.
Programs and Events:
- Arts Festival – Donna provided an update. Linda Watson created an Arts Festival Facebook page and asked everyone to share it with their friends.
- Flagpole Radio Café – Martin Blanco discussed the November Flagpole Radio Café show. He expressed his gratitude that a free show could be offered during the week of the power outage due to the generosity of the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers. The next show features Patty Larkin as the guest artist. Martin also reported that the Flagpole Radio Café banner is up and Deborah Henson-Conant will be the guest artist for the February show.
- Pre-show Receptions – Linda Watson confirmed that Amanda Watson would perform. Jennifer Rogers will pick up cheese and crackers. Donna Mangiafico will take care of tablecloths.
Arts Newsletter: Jennifer Rogers reported that the latest issue of the Arts Newsletter was distributed Tuesday.
Grants: Discussion was tabled until Jennifer Johnston receives feedback from Robert Tait and David Grogins.
Website: Discussion was tabled.
NCAC Open Position: Jennifer Johnston is awaiting resumes.
Public Participation: None
Other Business:
Online communication was discussed. Stacey Olszewski mentioned HamletHub an online news source. Sharon Cohen suggested linking the various communication sources together.
Kate Katcher shared information about the Chamber of Commerce’s Destination Newtown event and believes it is worth doing again.

The next meeting of the NCAC will be Thursday, December 22, 2011, 7:00 PM, Meeting Room 1, Newtown Municipal Center.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:02 PM.
