Meeting Minutes

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission held a meeting on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT.

Members Present:  Martin Blanco, Jennifer Johnston, Donna Mangiafico, Donna Monteleone Randle, Robert Rabinowitz, and Linda Watson

Members Absent:  Robert Kaiser and Jennifer Rogers

Auxiliary Members Present:  None

Guests:  Barbara Gaines, Kate Katcher, Layne Lescault

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:17 PM.

Newtown Youth and Family Services/Holiday Festival:
Layne Lescault shared information about the December 4th Newtown Youth and Family Services Holiday Festival.  The festival will include ballet performances, a Victorian “Teddy Bear” Tea, a sports competition, and the Festival of Trees.  Possible additions to the festival would be a theatrical performance, decorate a door (Main Street) contest, and/or holiday readings such as
“A Christmas Carol,” “The Night before Christmas,” or “The Grinch.”

Minutes:
The May 26, 2011 and July 28, 2011 meeting minutes were approved as written.

Officer Reports: No report

Treasurer Report:  
Linda Watson reviewed NCAC financials and will email a copy of financial report.

Programs and Events:
  • Pre-show Receptions – Martin Blanco stated that the Alexandria Room will most likely be available on the 17th.  Robert Rabinowitz reported that Boplicity is available to perform.  NCAC agreed that all on-line ticketholders are invited to attend the pre-show reception.  Sponsors were discussed.  Donna Monteleone Randle will contact McLaughlin Vineyards.  Robert Rabinowitz will contact Dental Associates.  Jennifer Johnston will contact SCAN.
  • Flagpole Radio Café – Martin Blanco revealed who the guest artists will be for Season 4.  He also discussed finances/donors/sponsors.  Martin shared information about the Flagpole Radio Café logo.  Fees for trademark legal issues were also discussed.  A vote on disbursement of funds was tabled until Martin Blanco provides receipts and Jennifer Johnston discusses the issue with the town attorney.
  • Arts Festival – Donna Mangiafico provided an update on planning and preparations for the Newtown Arts Festival.  Assistance is needed to share information with other Newtown Clubs and Organizations about different ways they can support the festival.  Donna Mangiafico will forward the Arts Festival Powerpoint Presentation to the NCAC.

Grants:
Jennifer Johnston reported that the grants process is on hold until we receive feedback from Robert Tait and David Grogins.

Discussion/update was tabled.

NCAC Open Position:
Robert Rabinowitz suggested contacting SCAN.  

Public Participation:  Kate Katcher provided information about the Stray Kats Theatre Company’s upcoming season.  Tickets are available for purchase via the straykatstheatrecompany.org website.  A 40% off full season subscription will be offered until November 19th.

Other Business:  
Labor Day Parade:  Rob Kaiser will work on a float and the NCAC will also have a booth to share information about the NCAC and Arts Festival.

Next Meeting:  The next meeting of the NCAC is scheduled on Thursday, September 22, 2011, 7:00 PM, Meeting Room 1, Newtown Municipal Center.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:31 PM.
