The Newtown Arts Festival Planning Group met on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 7:30 PM, at My Place Restaurant in Newtown.
Present were: Jennifer Johnston, Donna Mangiafico, Paul Mangiafico, Robert Rabinowitz, Donna Monteleone Randle, and Jennifer Rogers
On the agenda:
• Summer Press Releases – Jennifer Johnston will contact Sharon Cohen to discuss Arts Festival Press releases. A general information press release should be submitted this summer and information about the art contest should be released when students return to school in the fall. Jennifer will also set up a meeting with The Newtown Bee.
• Arts Festival Promotion – Robert Rabinowitz distributed fliers, business cards, and magnets. Jennifer Johnston will check with Stacey O about the Labor Day Parade vendor area and will discuss further at the NCAC meeting in July and August. Volunteers need to be recruited to help make a parade float and walk the parade so that NCAC members can man the information booth. Jennifer will also contact Phyllis Cortese about promoting the Arts Festival at the August 19th Flagpole show at the Ives Center.
• Music – Robert Rabinowitz will coordinate the bands. Robert will look into hiring & pricing production companies (stage, lighting, generator, etc.) Robert noted that we do not need to advertise for bands for the festival. Musicians who contact members of the NCAC or Arts Festival Planning Group can be advised to contact Robert via email.
• Budget – Donna Monteleone Randle will begin pricing out tent rentals (exhibition area, band & food area). Amy Mangold, Parks and Rec, will be invited to attend the August meeting to discuss using tables, chairs, etc. Jennifer Johnston will research security, waste disposal, recycling, port-o-potties, and hand washing stations.
• Development of Subcommittees/Updates – Donna Mangiafico discussed scheduling personal visits to other club & organization meetings to discuss the Arts Festival.
The next meeting of the Newtown Arts Festival Planning Group will be Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 7:30 PM, at My Place Restaurant in Newtown.
