Meeting Minutes

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission held a meeting on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, Newtown, CT.

Members Present: Martin Blanco, Jennifer Johnston, Donna Mangiafico, Donna Monteleone Randle, Robert Rabinowitz, and Linda Watson

Members Absent: Emily Howard, Rob Kaiser, and Jennifer Rogers

Auxiliary Members Present:  None

Guests:  Stacey Olszewski

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM.

Minutes:  
The minutes of the April 28, 2011 meeting were approved as written.

Officer Reports:
Jennifer Johnston thanked everyone for their efforts on the Flagpole show and pre-show reception for patrons.  Both shows were very well received.

Programs and Events:
  • Pre-show Reception – members discussed future pre-show receptions.  Suggestions were to contact the Newtown Bee to publish a pre-article and ask for more sponsors.   Martin Blanco asked about VIPs for follow-up.  
  • Flagpole Radio Café – Martin Blanco provided a preliminary report.  He will provide the final report at the next NCAC meeting.  
  • Arts Festival – Donna Mangiafico reported on the planning progress to date.  The monthly meetings of the Arts Festival Planning group will be moved from Friday to Wednesday evenings and the meeting place will be changed to My Place Restaurant in Newtown.  The new meeting dates will be sent via Mailchimp to the mailing list and will be published on the Arts Calendar.  The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 13, 2011 (no June meeting).
  • Future Programs/Events
  • Robert Rabinowitz band, Boplicity, was approached to play at McLaughlin Vineyards.  Robert is considering playing as a charity event for the NCAC.  
  • The Flagpole Radio Café was asked to perform at the Ives Center this summer.
  • Stacey Olszewski announced that there will be an area set up for family activities, vendors, and local clubs and organizations after the Labor Day Parade.  The NCAC will reserve a table.  Linda Watson will work on designing a flier to have available as a handout for this and future events.
  • Martin Blanco shared information about a 10 year memorial event for September 11th at the Ives Center in Danbury.
Grants:  Jennifer Johnston reported that the grants process is on hold until we receive feedback from Robert Tait and David Grogins.  Jennifer will set up a meeting with them.

Website:  Discussion was tabled until Rob Kaiser and Jennifer Rogers are present.

NCAC Open Position: A letter from the NCAC was sent to First Selectman Llodra asking for her assistance to expedite the process of filling the open position.

Public Participation:  None

Other Business:
Linda Watson announced that the fiscal year ends June 30th.  Linda will send the financial report via email to NCAC members.

Next Meeting:
The next meeting of the NCAC is scheduled on Thursday, June 23, 2011, 7:00 PM, Meeting Room 1, Newtown Municipal Center.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 PM.
