Meeting Minutes

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) held a meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the Old Courtroom at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.

Members Present:  Debbie Aurelia, Martin Blanco, Joe Grasso, Emily Howard, Jennifer Johnston, Rob Kaiser, Donna Mangiafico, Jennifer Rogers

Members Absent:  Linda Watson

Auxiliary Members Present:  None

Guests Present:  None

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

The minutes of the April 30, 2009 meeting were approved as written.

Officer Reports:

Jennifer Johnston announced that the NCAC would have a table at the upcoming Rooster Rally on Saturday, June 13, 2009.  She asked for volunteers to join her from 11:30 – 2 PM to provide an arts activity with a rooster theme for children and adults.  Joe Grasso suggested displaying posters from the Amahl and the Night Visitors production, CT Film Festival, and Flagpole Radio Café to highlight some of the events the NCAC has promoted.

Jennifer Johnston announced that the Parks and Recreation Department will offer four free concerts at Dickenson Park beginning in July.  Exact dates, times, and performers will be promoted on our website as soon as we obtain the detailed information.

Jennifer Johnston discussed the agenda for the next NCAC meeting.  It will be spent working on the calendar for 2009-2010 including election of officers.  She asked members to bring ideas to share for upcoming events.  Some suggestions were a Newtown Festival of the Arts, Film Series at Edmond Town Hall Theatre, and an Arts Organizations Meet & Greet event.

Jennifer Johnston reported that there will be a Fairfield Hills Authority meeting on June 17 at the Town Hall South at 7:30 PM.  Parks and Rec. will be discussing the open trail with the possibility of an amphitheater.  She encouraged NCAC members to attend to show their support.~

The Flagpole Radio Café was discussed.  Martin Blanco reported that there has been good press in the Newtown Bee and Danbury News Times.  

Martin Blanco also reported that the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers may be appointing a liaison to work with the NCAC on events.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009, 7:00 PM in the Old Courtroom at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.
