Meeting Minutes

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) held a meeting on Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Old Courtroom at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.

Members Present:  Debbie Aurelia, Martin Blanco, Joe Grasso, Jennifer Johnston, Donna Mangiafico

Members Absent:  Rob Kaiser, Marina Moscovici, Linda Watson

Auxiliary Members Present:  Jennifer Rogers

Guests Present:  Tom Carruthers

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

Approval of the October 23, November 20, and December 9, 2008 minutes were tabled to the December 23, 2008 special meeting as a quorum was not reached.

Officer Reports:

Jennifer Johnston announced that there will be two NCAC member vacancies to fill on January 1, 2009.  Raymond Shaw’s term will expire and Marina Moscovici will resign effective January 1, 2009.  Jennifer will submit a letter to the First Selectman to begin the process of filling the vacancies.  Jennifer will also recommend appointment of Jennifer Rogers who has been serving as an Auxiliary Member.

Jennifer Johnston reported that the NCAC 2009-2010 budget was submitted.

Linda Watson submitted a financial report to Jennifer Johnston to present.  Linda indicated that there is approximately $2,500 remaining and following the Amahl and the Night Visitors performance expenses, there would be approximately $800.

Jennifer Rogers reported that the Amahl and the Night Visitors performance went very well.  She recommended sponsoring the performance again, but would begin scheduling and fundraising earlier.  Joe Grasso also recommended advertising beyond Newtown to draw more people from the surrounding area.

Martin Blanco introduced Tom Carruthers from The Connecticut Film Festival.  Mr. Carruthers proposed the production of a one-day Connecticut Film Festival event featuring a local director, Harvey Hubbell.  The feature program of “The Anatomy Of A Film” will include the screening of the film “Dislecksia: The Movie.”  The program, cost, marketing, and publicity were discussed.  The NCAC will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 8:00 PM in the Newtown Town Clerk’s office to review the proposal.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.
There will be a special meeting of the NCAC on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 8:00 PM in the Newtown Town Clerk’s office.  The purpose of this meeting is to discuss and vote on participation in a special event of The Connecticut Film Festival and to vote on the tabled NCAC minutes.

The next regular meeting will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009, 7:00 PM in the Old Courtroom at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.
