Meeting Minutes
The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) held a meeting on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Old Courtroom at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.
Members Present: Debbie Aurelia, Martin Blanco, Joe Grasso, Jennifer Johnston, Donna Mangiafico, Marina Moscovici, Linda Watson
Members Absent: Robert Kaiser
Auxiliary Members Present: Jennifer Rogers
Public Present: Amy Mangold
Officer Reports:
Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
Jennifer Johnston introduced Amy Mangold, the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Newtown. Ms. Mangold discussed the appeal of collaborating with the NCAC to sponsor cultural events in town. She also discussed the possibility of building an outdoor space for summer concerts and/or theatrical events at Fairfield Hills or one of the town parks.
The minutes of the September 25, 2008 NCAC meeting were approved as written.
Officer Reports:
Jennifer Johnston, NCAC Chairperson, announced that there were two more State Commission on Culture and Tourism Show and Tell Programs. NCAC members were encouraged to attend.
Jennifer also announced that she would be attending a meeting of the Danbury Chamber of Commerce to discuss cooperative art and cultural events. Jennifer Rogers and Martin Blanco were interested in attending as well.
The Newtown Chamber of Commerce meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at My Place. NCAC members are encouraged to attend to discuss future events and sponsorships.
Jennifer Johnston announced that the Housatonic Valley Arts Council (HVAC) would be holding an awards breakfast on November 6, 2008 at the Ethan Allen Inn and anyone interested in attending should contact her.
Debbie Aurelia, NCAC Town Liaison, will contact the Town Attorney to ask about the “Indemnification against Liability” Article XIV in the NCAC Bylaws. Debbie also announced that the Annual Report of the NCAC must be submitted this month.
Linda Watson, NCAC Treasurer, will work with Jennifer Johnston to present a financial report and 2009 budget to the NCAC at the November meeting.
Martin Blanco, NCAC Program and Event Manager, announced that the second Flagpole Café performance would be Friday, October 24, 2008 at 8:00 PM. Martin announced that 2 ads were sold to local businesses. The next performance will be December 20, 2008.
Martin is also pursuing sponsoring foreign and/or independent films at the Edmond Town Hall theatre.
Donna Mangiafico, NCAC Secretary, presented the 2009 NCAC meeting calendar which was approved. Donna will schedule the Old Courtroom with the Edmond Town Hall Manager’s office.
Donna Mangiafico also announced that the NCAC Bylaws are almost complete. She will forward a copy of the most recent draft via email for review.
Joe Grasso discussed scheduling a winter concert/performance in December. He will make some calls to ask about availability.
Jennifer Rogers, NCAC Fund Development Manager, asked for comments on the flier she created and send via email to NCAC members.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Old Courtroom at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.
