Newton Trails Committee
Meeting Minutes
December 9, 2010
- Call to order: Chairperson Sandra Estabrook called the meeting to order at 7:15pm. In attendance were Sandra Estabrook, Brian Valimont, Mary Anne Lapierre, and Rick Milner.
- Motion by Valimont to submit mission statement to Board of Selectmen for formal approval. Second by Estabrook. Motion carried unanimously. Mission statement is as follows:
"In response to the desire of residents of the Town of Newton to have safe linkages between important destinations in the community, the goal of the trail committee is to create a plan and implement a strategy to provide for and promote the use of a more extensive and well-maintained multi-purpose trail system."
- Motion by Valimont to submit formal request to the Conservation Commission that the Trails Committee be considered a sub-committee of the Conservation Commission. Second by Lapierre. Motion carried unanimously.
- Motion by Estabrook to inquire about submitting an article in the Carriage Towne News about inviting new members to join the trails committee. Second by Valimont. Motion carried unanimously.
- Estabrook started a discussion regarding non-evasive, nature- friendly trail markings. She had seen good examples in West Newbury. She encouraged board members to find other examples for use in Newton. Valimont noted that there were well-marked trails at Mill Pond/Mill Park in West Newbury.
- Adjourn: Meeting adjourned at 7:35pm. Next meeting is scheduled for January 13, 2011 at 7pm.
