Trails Committee Minutes for September 23, 2010
Attendance:
Shelia, Mary Anne, Brain, Rick and Sandy.
Guest:
Meeting called to order at 7:04pm.
Sandy recorded the minutes.
Business:
Our past summer meetings were held outside on different town owned properties so the committee could be familiar with their lay out. Therefore this being our first indoor meeting it was about organizing us. We still needed a co chairperson. Mary Anne made a notion to nominate Brian Valimont as co chair and Sheila seconded. Discussion followed and Brian accepted the nomination. A vote was taken and Brian was unanimous elected. The position of secretary was also available. Mary Anne nominated Rick Milner seconded by Sheila. Discussion followed and Rick accepted the nomination. A vote was but to the floor and Rick was elected unanimously. Thank you to Brian and Rick.
The selectman voted to establish the Trails Committee which included a mission statement that the committee could use to set their goals or improve upon. Sandy will forward the selectman minutes to all members so they can read it and discuss it at our next meeting. Rick mentioned that it might be possible for us to be set up as a sub-committee of the Conservation Commission. Brian made a motion that we approach the Conservation Commission to see if this is feasible. Seconded by Rick. A vote was put to the floor and unanimously accepted. Sandy will send email to the chairperson and secretary of Con Com to be put on their agenda.
Setting membership limits was our next structurally item. As of now we have representation from Planning board, conservation and town residence. Sandy suggested we might want to ask recreation if they had a person who would want to join. Brian made a motion that we set up a seven (7) member committee with three (3) alternate positions. Seconded by Rick. Voted all in favor.
Town web master and selectman secretary Mary Winglass approached Sandra in regards to our minutes and agendas. As a duly formed committee of the town we should have minutes and agendas posted so town residence can follow or join in our mission. Sandy told her she has been sending the minutes to the town administrator. Sandy told Mary the secretary will include her on the distribution list for both so she can post them on the town web site, a hard copy of the agenda will also be posted in a public location. Anyone wishing to contact the trails committee can leave written correspondences at or call the town hall. We meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 7:00 pm, the public is welcome and encouraged to attend. Mary Anne made a motion to continue this schedule through December, Sheila seconded. All voted and
approved.
Old Business:
Continuing our walks of town owned land our next walk will be Thursday September 30. We will meet at 5:30 pm to view Old Lower road. Starting at Whittier St and ending at Wallace St. Please park in the drive way to Parker Meadows.
Rick and Sandy worked on an excel spreadsheet of town owned properties. This information is also in the Town report under the town building and land schedule. Sandy will check our list against the town report and bring it to the next meeting.
New Business:
Conservation Commission got an email from a resident wanting information on trails/recreation land. Sandy told Secretary Kim to forward her the email and she will respond.
Next meeting Thursday October 14 at 7:00 PM.
