NEWTON BOARD OF SELECTMEN
DATE: TUESDAY, MARCH 6, 2012

PUBLIC MEETING

  • Call to Order, Roll Call Vote
Chairman Thayer called the meeting to order at 4:40pm.  In attendance were Chairman Raymond D. Thayer, Selectman Trisha J. McCarthy, Town Administrator Nancy J. Wrigley and Office Manager Mary B. Winglass.  Selectman Lawrence B. Foote was not in attendance due to attending a work seminar.  The meeting was audio taped; minutes were transcribed and typed by Office Manager Winglass.

Chairman Thayer motioned to go into Nonpublic Meeting per RSA 91-A:3 II (e) - Pending Claim; (a) - Transfer Station.  Second by Selectman McCarthy.  Motion passed with a unanimous roll call vote.

Chairman Thayer closed the nonpublic session at 5:18pm  Per unanimous roll call vote, the minutes of the meeting will remain confidential until in the opinion of the majority of the members, the circumstances no longer apply except to announce the following;

  • The Board unanimously approved sending a resident a follow up letter regarding a previous meeting and
  • The Board unanimously approved to terminate Henry Sawyer, Transfer Station Floater as a result of his three month probationary review based upon the Transfer Station Manager’s evaluation and recommendation effective March 3, 2012.
The public meeting resumed at 5:26pm

  • Selectmen’s Public Meeting minutes dated January 30, 2012, February 2, 2012, February 7, 2012 and February 21, 2012
Chairman Thayer motioned to approve the Selectmen’s Public Meeting minutes dated January 30, 2012, February 2, 2012, February 7, 2012 and February 21, 2012.  Second by Selectman McCarthy who added “as written”.  Motion passed.
 
  • Selectmen’s Nonpublic Meeting minutes dated January 30, 2012, February 2, 2012 and February 7, 2012
Chairman Thayer motioned to approve the Selectmen’s Nonpublic Meeting minutes dated January 30, 2012, February 2, 2012 and February 7, 2012.  Second by Selectman McCarthy who added “as written”.  Motion passed.

  • Scheduled Business
  • Tax Collector’s Property Tax Supplement Warrant
The Board signed a Tax Collector’s Property Tax Supplement Warrant in the amount of $8,118.50.

  • Per RSA 31:95-b to accept and expend a $250 cash donation from the family of Janice Lynn to the Food Pantry
Chairman Thayer motioned per RSA 31:95-b to accept and expend a $250 cash donation from the family of Janice Lynn to the Food Pantry.  Second by Selectman McCarthy.  Motion passed

  • Per RSA 31:95-b to accept and expend a check in the amount of $20.40 from the Newton Learning Center to the Food Pantry
Chairman Thayer motioned per RSA 31:95-b to accept and expend a check in the amount of $20.40 from the Newton Learning Center to the Food Pantry.  Second by Selectman McCarthy.  Motion passed.

  • Announcements
The Board discussed the following upcoming events;

  • Open House at the Police Station, 8 Merrimac Road this weekend, Saturday and Sunday starting at 1pm to 4pm
  • Town elections are on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 8am to 8pm at the Newton Town Hall.  Town Reports are available at the Town Hall and Gale Library as well as online at www.newton-nh.gov.
  • Set up for elections will be done by some of the town’s Transfer Station staff; employees are to park at the church on election day.
  • Other Business, Sign Manifests, Requisitions, Abatements, Tax Credits, Correspondence and Appointments
  • The Board signed the Vendor Manifest in the amount of $927,579.51
  • Adjourn
Chairman Thayer adjourned the meeting at 5:35pm.
