PUBLIC HEARING
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2011
Notice is hereby given to all residents of Newton, New Hampshire, that a Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 starting at 7pm to discuss and take public comment on the Cable Television Renewal Franchise for the Town of Newton.
The franchise authorizes and permits Comcast to construct, operate and maintain a Cable Television System in the Public Ways within the municipal limits of the Town of Newton.
The public is encouraged to attend. Copies of the renewal franchise are available at the Office of the Board of Selectmen, Newton Town Hall, 2 Town Hall Road, Newton, NH.
Chairman Foote opened the Public Hearing at 7pm. In attendance were Chairman Lawrence B. Foote, Selectman Raymond D. Thayer, Town Administrator Nancy J. Wrigley and Office Manager Mary B. Winglass. The hearing was videotaped; minutes were transcribed and typed by Office Manager Winglass.
Chairman Foote read the Public Hearing notice as written above in italics. Chairman Foote added that this public hearing is being held to consider Comcast’s ability to serve you, the community, in the best possible way by providing adequate and technically sound facilities and signal quality for our community.
Chairman Foote asked if there are any comments from the public.
Members of the Cable Committee were in attendance. Selectman Thayer asked when was the last time the contract was renewed. Cable Chairman Diane Morin responded that it was a ten year contract and we are looking to sign a second ten year contract.
Selectman Thayer asked about the percent of the franchise fee. Cable Chairman Diane Morin replied that the renewal agreement maintains a 5% franchise fee, supported by the Board of Selectmen.
Chairman Foote closed the public hearing at 7:05pm.
