SELECTMEN’S PUBLIC MEETING

JULY 12, 2010

Call to Order

Selectman Thayer opened the meeting at 6pm.  In attendance were Selectman Raymond D. Thayer, Selectman Robert S. Donovan, Jr., Town Administrator Nancy J. Wrigley, Office Manager Mary B. Winglass and Road Agent Mike Pivero.  

Chairman McCarthy was not at the meeting.  

2010 Paving Program

Road Agent Mike Pivero prepared an outline of paving bids for 2010 from the following companies;

Pivero added that his recommendation is to go with the lowest bid;

Continental for paving at $63.75 per ton and Fitzgerald Grading at $1.48 sy for reclaim/fine grade.

Work to be completed includes roads outlined in the 2009 Roadway Condition Evaluation, which can be viewed on the town’s website www.newton-nh.gov, and that do not require any work to underground drainage as follows;





Smith Corner Road                       1,800 approx sy
Crane Crossing Road             2,600 approx sy
Heath Street                            2,200 approx sy
Maple Avenue                    2,600 approx sy
Total                                   9,200 approx sy

Total of 9,200 sy reclaim @ $1.48     = $13,616.00
Total of 1,820 ton paving @ $63.75 = $116,025.00
                                              $129,641.00

Pivero informed the Board that his plan to pay for this year’s paving projects is as follows;

Encumbered Funds from 2009              $39,770.00
Highway Block Grant from 2009           $87,234.79
Remaining from 2010 paving budget       $32,000.00
                                                 $159,004.79

Selectman Donovan motioned to allow the Road Agent to spend $129,641 for paving and resurfacing of town roads.  Second by Selectman Thayer.  For the following town roads; Smith Corner Road, Crane Crossing Road, Health Street and Maple Avenue.  Vote: Unanimous.

Other Business

The Board signed a letter to Butler Bank informing them of our newly elected Treasurer and Deputy as signers to all accounts related to the Town of Newton.

Selectman Thayer motioned to close the meeting at 6:12pm.  Second by Selectman Donovan.  Vote: Unanimous.
