December 21, 2009

Chairman McCarthy opened the Public Hearing at 7:06pm.  In attendance were Chairman Trisha J. McCarthy, Selectman Raymond D. Thayer, Selectman Robert S. Donovan, Jr., Town Administrator Nancy J. Wrigley and BOS Office Manager Mary B. Winglass.  The Public Hearing was video taped; minutes were transcribed and typed by Office Manager Winglass.

Chairman McCarthy read the Public Hearing Notice per RSA 31:95-b, the Board of Selectmen is holding this Public Hearing to accept and expend unanticipated funds in the amount of $105,730.34 from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and $17,621.72 from the State of New Hampshire.  The Town of Newton received these funds due to the December 2008 Ice Storm Disaster FEMA-1812-DR-NH which was declared on January 2, 2009.  

Resident Gus Medeiros was present and asked where the money is going.  Chairman McCarthy explained that the funds reimbursed the General Fund for expenses incurred during and following the December 2008 Ice Storm.  EMD Director Larry Foote explained some of the cost incurred during this emergency included additional payroll, material and equipment expenses and cleanup of the roads.

There were no other questions from the public.

Chairman McCarthy motioned to accept and expend unanticipated funds in the amount of $105,730.34 from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and $17,621.72 from the State of New Hampshire.  Second by Selectman Donovan.  Vote: Unanimous.

Chairman McCarthy closed the Public Hearing at 7:08pm.
