MINUTES
In Attendance: Bob Bartlett - Bob Donovan – Larry Streeter – Bill Ingalls – Norman & Lynn Harding

Called to Order at 6:40 PM
Bob Bartlett reviewed the agenda. Minutes from the February 17th meeting were unavailable for approval..
The committee welcomed Steve Palmer of Newton and Rick Daniels of E. Kingston.
Bob Bartlett handed out literature:
– “Who’s At the Door” by D.J. Acomb, Architect. The subject relates to understanding the function of a fire station.
– “Fire Station and Facility Design” by Paul deSilva
? Norman will get copies of this made for all members of the committee
Voting Day : Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - Location: Memorial School, Newton Junction. 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
– Article # 16: Establish a Capital Reserve Fund to be known at “Safety Complex Building Fund” in the sum of $50,000 for the purpose of engineering and building a new Safety Complex in the Town of Newton.
– Approximate rough figure Tax Impact for this article: $.20 Cents Plus/Minus $.02 Cents on a $1,000
– Chief Ingalls said he will be available all day for citizen questions.
– Bob Bartlett had submitted a Letter to the Editor in support of Safety Complex
– Discussion was held regarding Road Agent’s 2005 Survey “Question” regarding the Peanut Trail as an emergency access road.
Reviewed possible land and discussed options with owners possible willingness to donate.
o Possible land locations:
Ø Chester Bearce property on 108 (almost across the street from present station)
Ø Dennis Fitsgerald property on 108 (across the street from Gordon’s Garage)
Ø Nancy Marden property on Whittier Street
o Chief Ingalls will contact Chester Bearce after the vote on Tuesday.
o Bob Donovan and Norman Harding have had initial conversation with Dennis Fitzgerald, will follow-up after the vote.
o At present committee discussed land should be 5/6 acres for optimum usage.

– Present day station’s future: Move? Dismantle? Burn?
– Land at/under present day station: Transform into Newton Community Park?
– Plan a field trip to other Safety Complex’s- suggested complexes: Holderness – Fremont – Atkinson – Wakefield – Lee – Epping
– Present Town Population / Future Growth Potential and its effects
– Chief Streeter shared statistics regarding Town Police Coverage: (Now) 1 Officer per 1000 residents (National Average) 1 Officer per 500 residents.
– “50 Year” Building
Rick Daniels discussed his experiences regarding Safety Complex Planning. Major topics of that discussion centered on a Time Line / Design (Expectations) Planning / Preparing actual documents for Wants & Needs (A True “Wish List”) and the importance of a Public Relations Campaign
o Bob Bartlett and Norman Harding will work with the two Chiefs on a Time Line following the Vote.
o Chief Ingalls and Chief Streeter will create their Wish Lists
Fireman’s Muster. Discussed the possibility of holding one this coming summer in Newton. Consensus was reached by all members that a Muster would be good - all members will investigate the possibilities and report back at the next meeting.
