Morin was able to reserve ice time for April 25, 2013 from 5:30-6:50pm at the same cost of $5 per person including skate rental.

The following organizations or individuals need to be contacted:
Boy Scouts              Rick Bailey             Thayer will contact No Update
Kingston VFW            James Voss              Thayer will contact No Update
Girl Scouts
Brazier was able to make contact with Angela McVey.  McVey will ask the girls and their parents about walking in the parade.  She also asked if the Girl Scouts could make a presentation to honor the fallen.  The presentation is still in the development stage but her thoughts were either flowers or flags.  DiMercurio said that would be fine but they would need approval from the Board of Selectmen.  McVey will talk with girls and come up an idea for the presentation.
Newton Police
Woodman contacted Chief Larry Streeter and he will provide a detail to march in the parade.  He will also provide traffic control.
Newton Baseball Brain O’Rourke  Woodman sent email but has not heard back from him.

Newton Learning Center
Morin contacted the owner and they would like to participate.  They asked if they could decorate their bus so the little kids could ride.  The commission agreed that would be fine.
Empowered Martial Arts
Morin contacted the owner and they would like to participate.  Morin will get back to him about the details.
Ocasios Martial Arts
No more need as we already have a martial arts group.
Draft horses
Morin contacted Vincent Difazio about the draft horses.  This year they will not be able to participate.  They have new horses and are not sure how they will behave in a parade.
Antique Vehicles
Morin spoke with Ralph Estabrooks about having the antique truck in the parade.  He has agreed and will have someone drive the truck for us.  At the same time Bob Donovan Sr. was there and he is willing to drive his antique vehicle as well.  The problem is these vehicles overheat easily.  He suggested putting these vehicles at the front of the parade to avoid overheating.

  • Contact for Girl Scouts: Brazier and McVey spoke about a possible outing to be held in May called Spring Fling/Fair.  McVey explained that Girl Scouts is geared to community service and that participation is down. Their initial idea is to have activities for families.  Some ideas were 3 legged race, sack race, face painting and bean toss.  The discussion then turned to where to hold the event.  If using Greenie Park would need to coordinate with Newton Baseball.  If using the Memorial/Middle school, a custodian will need to be hired.  Another option would be the new police station area.  Brazier will contact Chief Streeter to see about using the area.  Chester Bearce is the owner of the property.  Brazier will contact Newton Baseball to see when opening day is.  DiMercurio will send a letter to Newton Baseball asking for their season schedule. Brazier asked the question,” How does the money from fund raising get distributed”?  DiMercurio responded that the money raised from fund raising would need to be earmarked for a specific item such as rubber mats at Greenie Park.  DiMercurio will ask the Selectmen about raising funds for things like Greenie Park.
  • Easter Egg hunt:  Cancelled because there is not enough time to put together.  The Girls Scouts had a bad experience last time they held it.
  • Helping out with a thrift store in town:  Brazier brought up the idea of having a thrift store in town.  She spoke with the Town’s Welfare agent who informed her that there was limited space available to store clothes.  Brazier would like to ask for gently used clothes that she is willingly to store.  Then once/twice a month hold a sale so people can come and buy the items.  Landry suggested using the town hall.  Morin informed the commission that we would need to fill out the application for use of the town hall.  Brazier will investigate more and come back with a plan. Landry will call the Friends of the Library to see if we could have a table at their yard sale.
  • Possible babysitting club:  Brazier explained the program.  Landry stated that the Library already does the babysitting classes.  Brazier will contact the library and further investigate if it’s needed.
  • Foxwoods trip update:  Morin reported that only 1 person has signed up.  The commission will wait until the deadline, April 12, and if not enough people sign up the trip will be cancelled.  Mary Winglass informed Morin that a resident was not happy with the price.  Morin explained that the difference is we included the bus driver’s gratuity.  Also Plaistow Recreation is planning a trip the same week and was charging less.  Theirs didn’t include the gratuity.   The money that has been collected will be placed in the safe at the Town Hall.
  • Indian Head Resort update: Senior warrant article passed so we can move forward with this.  The cost will be $40 for senior residents and $55 for all others residents and non-residents.  The date of the trip is October 9, 2013.  The bus will leave from Plaistow Park-N-Ride around 8:30am.
DiMercurio made a motion to move forward with the Indian Head Resort trip.  The cost for senior residents will be $40.  The cost for all others, residents and non-residents will be $55.  For each senior resident $15 will be paid from the Senior Warrant Article number 17.  Woodman seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
  • Town Day:  Tabled till next meeting.
  • Announcements
  • Other Business
  • Sign time sheet for Morin:  DiMercurio signed
  • Sign requisitions for ice skating outing:  DiMercurio signed
  • Town Wide Yard Sale:  Brazier brought up the idea of having a town wide yard sale as a fund raiser.  We would sell advertising on a map to sellers showing their location.  Then we would sell the maps to buyers.  To make it more interesting we could make it a treasure map where the buyers would need to purchase an item from each seller and then they would get there map stamped.  Once their map is full they would be entered into a drawing for cool prizes.
  • Correspondence:
  • Morin received inquiry about swim lessons at the Town Beach for non-residents.  She will respond to person.
  • Adjournment: 9:15pm
