Meeting Minutes
March 28, 2012
Call to order:
Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm by Member Tom Hansen; seconded by Ray Thayer.
Meeting Minutes Read:
Secretary DiMercurio reported no minutes to read as the past meeting was canceled due to no quorum.
Old Business:
Library Passes to Children's Museum...Tabled for a future date
New Business:
Our warrant article for $3500.00 for senior activities has passed so members talked about ideas for this year. Several suggestions included “Blue Man Group”, Mohegan Sun trip, Newport, RI trip, with several other ideas for the summer and fall. Secretary DiMercurio to look into Blue Man Group for pricing and present at next meeting. No voting occurred on this; waiting on pricing information.
Raft issue was tabled for a future meeting.
Soccer Club use at beach. Secretary DiMercurio presented to the members an email from a soccer club who would like to start a summer league for local children at the town beach. Our members had more questions regarding this. Secretary DiMercurio to email back to the club organizer for answers and will present these at next meeting.
Earth Day—April 22nd. Secretary DiMercurio read another email from a local resident who is requesting to do a town clean up day on April 22. Recreation will contact conservation commission to see if they have anything planned and would like to join with us regarding this.
Memorial Day Parade. Update as to who has been contacted. Suggestions about asking disabled American vet groups, veteran motorcycle groups, “Order of the Arrow” Boy scouts, as well as Hawthorne Council of Girl Scouts. Suggestion to put an article in the Carriage Town News asking for participants floats and volunteers bands.
April Vacation Ideas. General consensus was that it was too late to plan anything for the children for April vacation.
Beach
Lifeguards—Secretary DiMercurio informed that the ad for lifeguards, swim aids, and swim coordinator has been placed in the newspaper.
Discussion about the day beach opens took place and it is being considered to open the beach on Memorial Day. Will vote at next meeting for an actual start date and when to start guards.
Park
Playground covering...issued tabled for a future meeting.
Additional Business:
Maintenance contract...Secretary DiMercurio announced that the maintenance contract for Greenie Park has been given to T & M Maintenance again this year.
T & M Maintenance bill from 2011. Secretary DiMercurio informed the board that a bill from T & M was still outstanding and that there was a small issue with a particular line on that bill. She explained that there were some mowing dates that did not coincide with our maintenance agreement and was wondering why we were charged for these. She found out that the selectmen asked T & M why these occurred. T & M is going to adjust these dates out and submit a corrected bill for payment. The balance due is for the winterizing and fall fertilizing of the park.
