RECREATION MEETING MINUTES
APRIL 13, 2011

BUSINESS DISCUSSED:
- Lifeguards, Swim Coordinator, Swim Aids – Review by board of job descriptions for each position. All have been reviewed and accepted. S. DiMercurio to send email to high school for posting Discussion on apparel and what to purchase. This has been tabled until hiring has taken place. P. Dupuis to look at beach shed and see if there are any necessary supplies to order as well at which point the board will make its motion to purchase. Swim program specifics have been tabled until next meeting. Applications to be reviewed and gone over in non-public meeting to be held on 4/27/11.
- Barrels – Board of Selectmen have approved the purchase of barrels for park, beach, and boat ramp. Dave Marden to look into the cost of covers before we purchase anything because concerns have been brought up about birds and/or wind taking trash. Discussion about maintaining barrels took place and it has been determined that the barrels at the park (during baseball season) will need to be taken care of by the baseball commission; the beach will be maintained by the beach staff. S. DiMercurio is to send a letter to the road agent to see if the road crew could pick up the ramp trash. If that does not happen, the committee will revisit what to do at the ramp
- Greenie Park Maintenance Spec’s – To be opened at the Board of Selectmen meeting and awarded on 04/19 Meeting.
- Town Beach CleanUp Day – Recreation Commission to sponsor a “Town Beach Clean up Day” on April 30 from 10-3 in conjunction with Earth Day. S. DiMercurio to contact Anita Fowler from Girl Scouts and P. Dupuis to contact Rick Bailey from Boy Scouts to see if they would like to take part. A notice to be placed in newspaper and on website to advertise.
- Memorial Day Parade –. Recreation Commission to donate money to Memorial Day Parade. Motion made by T. Hansen that a donation be made by the Recreation Commission which is not to exceed $225.00 and is to be used to purchase food for the marchers after the parade. Seconded by S. DiMercurio Passed unanimously Requisition to be submitted for next Board of Selectmen Meeting and funds to come from the “Patriotic Events” line of the budget. Discussion about small flags for parade took place and R. Thayer to see if we will need to order them or if we still have some left over from past events.
- June Trip —June trip to Indian Head Resort has been approved by BOS. Trip to cost residents $41.00 and non-res $45.00. We get 2 comp dinners with 42 guests. Motion made by T. Hansen to put before the Board of Selectmen the requisition for the deposit of $200.00 to be sent to Indian Head Resort by May 5. Seconded by P. Dupuis Passed unanimously Flyers to be made up and passed out around town and at town hall. S. DiMercurio to look into the use of Town Hall for sign ups. T. Hansen suggested a waiver be made up for people attending to sign. Motion made by T. Hansen to submit write-up on trip to newspaper and website. Seconded by P. Dupuis. Passed unanimously. S.DiMercurio to send write up to webmaster for posting and into Carriage
Towne News Press Release for printing. (Resident Ken Collins has asked Recreation to notify him of upcoming events )–S. DiMercurio to send him a flyer and letter informing him of June trip
- July trip – Liberty Clipper Ship on July 20th. Price is $25.00 residents and $30.00 for non residents. Trip will be open to all residents and the money will come out of our program budget. Motion was made by S. DiMercurio to accept the July trip to the Liberty Clipper Ship with lunch at Boston Sail Loft. Seconded by T. Hansen. Passed unanimously. Requisition to be put before the Board of Selectmen for approval
OTHER BUSINESS
- Right to Know meeting is April 21, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. Suggested that Secretary DiMercurio attend
- Motion made by S. DiMercurio to purchase office supplies for back office which are not to exceed $50.00. Seconded by P. Dupuis Passed unanimously. Money to come out of the Equipment and supplies budget line.
- Motion made by T. Hansen to pay the Carriage Town News $64.35 for the advertising of Greenie Park Maintenance contract Seconded by P. Dupuis Passed unanimously. Money to come from advertising budget line.
- Motion made by S. DiMercurio to purchase spyware for P. Dupuis computer, not to exceed $50.00 and also to include the cost of the technicians time to install which should not exceed $200.00. Seconded by T. Hansen. Passed unanimously
- Quote for potties for park and beach came in higher than originally expected. Motion was made by S. DiMercurio to accept the increase for the portable toilets but to change the start dates for them to fit into the budget. Seconded by P. Dupuis. Passed unanimously
Ray Thayer to look into router for back office with computer technician as well as a phone and line for the town beach shed (for emergencies only since there is no cell phone signal there)
