RECREATION MEETING MINUTES
MARCH 9, 2011


CALL TO ORDER:    7:10 PM By Pauline Dupuis

OLD BUSINESS:
  • Barrels --  Dave Marden brought in examples of barrels he uses.  Discussion on buying new or used from different vendors.  Decisison made to obtain 8 (eight) barrels from Alternative Sales.  S. DiMercurio made the motion to purchase the two (2) used barrels at $15.00 a piece and six (6) new barrels at $37.00 a piece from Alternative Sales plus the supplies needed to maintain them.  The total cost of these eight barrels and supplies is $300.00 and is to be taken out of the Beach Dumpster Budget and part of the Park Dumpster Budget.  Seconded by M. Muskrat.  Accepted and Passed unanimously.  Suggestion made to have signs posted over these barrels…D. Marden to get a quote.  He will have for next meeting.  
  • April Vacation Trip – Discussion on where to go….Decision made to go to Park Place Lanes in Windham for bowling trip.  P. Dupuis made motion to accept the trip as planned.  T. Hansen seconded and it passed unanimously.  Decided that 40 students could attend with 10 chaperones which will fill a school bus.  Using First Student Bus Company.  Notices sent to schools  for posting and have put into Carriage Towne News.
  • April Town Trip – P. Dupuis talked to Vic Geary Center and they ok’ed that we post our flyer over there for this trip.  She also asked if we could advertise in their newsletter and they declined.  Flyers for this trip are being distributed in and around the area as well as an article sent to the Carriage Towne News.  The cost of this trip had to be changed due to budget constraints and a discussion ensued about how much more to charge.   
  • May Trip – Our May trip is to the Portsmouth Music Hall with Lunch before.  Discussion regarding an increase in pricing and which restaurant to attend.  P. Dupuis to check into a group rates at local restaurants and their capacity.
  • Motion made by P. Dupuis to accept the April and May trips as planned.  T. Hansen Seconded Motion was passed unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS:

  • Website --  S. DiMercurio to inquire about starting a website devoted to the recreation commission and upcoming events.
  • Facebook – Facebook page has been started by M. Muskrat
  • Future Trips – The following has been talked about for future trips
June 5  -- Indian Head Resort – LobsterFest    Tabled for discussion as no price has been given for groups
July 20 – Boston Tall Ship “Liberty Clipper”.   $25.00 per person and having lunch at the Chart House.  P. Dupuis to check into group meal rates.  Discussion on costs of this trip and possibly adding $10.00 to the ticket price.
Aug ? – Gillette Castle.  P. Dupuis to call and book.  Tabled for a future meeting
Sept ? – Odyssey/Spirit of Boston Curise.  Seniors Only Deal Cost is $45.00.  Further discussion on this trip regarding cost.  Tabled for another meeting.

  • Newsletter – M. Muskrat has come up with a draft of a Newsletter for the Recreation Commission.  All Members like the format and agree it looks good.  Discussion on adding a calendar of events, and potential articles still to be discussed.
  • Summer Programs – Discussion on how to incorporate the monies to get this program started.  Ideas include combining the Beach Salary money and the Summer Program Budgets together.  We would like to create a new position “Summer Program Coordinator” along with their job description.  Decisions would need to be made on how long the program would last for, and how many days during the week to plan it for as well as curriculum.  Discussion on bringing in another town to discuss how they do their summer programs and to give us some ideas.  Further discussion is needed—Tabled till next meeting.
  • Picnic Tables – Motion made by S. DiMercurio to table until budget is refigured .  Seconded  by M. Muskrat. Passed unanimously
  • Skateboard Park – Tabled for a future meeting.  Recreation is looking into getting blueprints of park and making a decision where to put it.  Discussion ensued about whether or not we need a skateboard park.
  • Easter Egg Hunt – Tabled until next meeting.


No other business was discussed.
