July 8, 2009

1. Call to Order:
Chairman Rick Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:50 pm with the following members present: Chairman Rick Bailey, Vice Chair Deb Holden, and Alternate/Secretary Lisa Babcock.  Minutes were transcribed and typed by Lisa Babcock.  Also in attendance: Jon Holden, Swim Director.

Bailey appointed Babcock to stand in for the evening.

2. Boy Scout – Eagle Project: Adam Nicol and Yvette Nicol were present.  Mr. Nicol presented his Eagle Project idea to the commission.  Mr. Nicol wants to set up bat houses at the Town Beach and Greenie Park.  He requested a letter from the commission approving the idea.

Mr. Nicol said the bat houses will be mounted on poles. One bat house will be mounted at the town beach and one at Greenie Park.

Bailey moved to grant permission to Adam Nicol to erect bat houses at the Town Beach and Greenie Park contingent upon approval for the final location of each bat house. Second by Holden. Motion carried unanimously.

Mr. Nicol said that the town would have to agree to take ownership of the bat houses after they are built and installed.  He asked that the letter reflect that.

Mr. Nicol will email information about the bat houses to the secretary.  The information will then be distributed to the members.

3. Town Beach:
Babcock will measure the volleyball court and order a net.

Bailey moved to purchase Model ML4 Pro Beach Net for $151, color to be white, plus up to $40 for shipping out of town beach supplies. Second by Holden. Motion carried unanimously.

Babcock informed the commission that the bike rack that was chosen at the previous meeting would not work at the town beach since it needed to be mounted on pavement.  

Holden moved to purchase a wave bike rack # GR6808 out of savings, color to be black, not to exceed $400 including shipping. Second by Bailey. Motion carried unanimously.

Swim Director, Jon Holden said the police and fire departments did not attend the drill scheduled for June 27th.  The guards practiced some rescues.  Bailey said to ask Selectmen Donovan if the police and fire departments should be invited to the next meeting to schedule a drill.

4. Summer Programs: Mr. Holden said swim lessons have been going well, they are working around the rainy weather as best they can.

Deb Holden said the numbers are down for the summer programs including golf, tennis and swim lessons.  She noted that the beach party is scheduled for July 25th.

5. Senior Programs: Approximately 35 seniors have signed up for the trip to Fosters.  A larger bus will be needed.  

Bailey moved to spend up to $1,000 for a 55 passenger bus, meal for 1 chaperone, gratuity for bus driver and raffle prizes. Second by Holden. Motion carried unanimously.

Babcock will check with Roger Clark about what is customary for tipping the driver.

6. Fall Fair: Babcock will send a "save the date" to all town departments and everyone who participated last year.  The date is October 3rd.

7. Other Business:

Holden moved to pay $15.95 for a 1 year subscription to Family Fun Magazine out of office supplies. Second by Bailey. Motion carried unanimously.

8. Adjourn: Bailey called the meeting adjourned at 10:06 pm.
