Call to order
Chairman Rick Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:50 pm with the following members present: Nancy Slombo and Deb Holden. Minutes were recorded and transcribed by secretary/alternate, Lisa Babcock.
Bailey appointed Alternate Lisa Babcock to stand in for the evening.
Fall Festival
The Commission discussed the weather report for the upcoming weekend – heavy rains and high winds.
Bailey moved to postpone the Fall Festival from Saturday, September 27th to Sunday, September 28th due to the bad weather forecast. Second by Holden. Motion carried unanimously.
The Commission then reviewed the list of participants and determined who would call who. Babcock will change the sign in front of the town hall and send an updated flyer to the schools.
Holden made the following suggestions: have the prize for the logo contest displayed at the Festival also have the logo contest rules and blank paper available at the Festival in case anyone wants to make an entry that day.
Bailey will pick up supplies at Sam's Club.
Holden will order up to 10 signs to post around town for the Fall Festival.
Bills
Bailey moved to reimburse Babcock $17.01 for copies of keys for the sheds at the Town Beach and Greenie Park. Second by Slombo. Motion carried 3-0-1 with Babcock abstaining.
Holden mentioned that a wheelbarrow is needed at the Town Beach for ongoing cleanup work. She asked if she could pick one up if she saw one for a reasonable price. There were no objections.
Bailey moved to pay invoices in the amount of $1,860 to the Greenskeeper for field maintenance at Greenie Park (fertilizing, weed control, etc.). Second by Slombo. Motion carried unanimously.
It was noted that the bills had been forwarded to NBSA which was why the Commission was receiving all of the bills for the season at once.
Greenie Park
Bailey informed the Commission that Screamin' Green is contracted for 2 more mowing at the Park for September. He told Mr. Hill of Screamin' Green to continue mowing into October and to bill NBSA for the extra mowing. The bill will be forwarded to the Recreation Commission.
Other Business
Bailey suggested setting up a Recreation table at the Town Hall during the elections in November.
Adjourn
Bailey called the meeting adjourned at 10:00 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lisa Babcock, Secretary
Newton Recreation Commission
