Call to order
Chairman Rick Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:45 pm with the following members present: Rick Bailey, Nancy Slombo, Deb Holden and alternate/secretary Lisa Babcock. Minutes were recorded and transcribed by Lisa Babcock.

Bailey appointed Babcock to stand in for the evening.

Fall Fair: The Commission discussed plans for the upcoming fair – to be called the Newton Fall Festival.

Pony rides will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Cost is around $400.  New England Reptile will be from 1:00 – 2:00 pm.  Cost is $300.

The fair will be held on 9/27/08, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  Bailey will send an ad into the paper.  

Holden announced that Mat McElroy is not able to provide DJ services all day due to a prior commitment.  She will find out how long he can stay.

Holden suggested having a scare crow contest open to businesses, organizations, and families.  A prize will be given for the winner.  She also suggested a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

Holden will order the following: Bingo Set ($55), 2 different crafts ($80), and prizes ($65).  

There will not be a road race, but the commission will hold a fun run for kids.

Holden will contact Marie, to perform the Song and Hat Show and Mad Science.  Bailey said the Boy Scouts will run the concession stand and may set up a table as well.  

The following will also be contacted:

Kingston Cougars,  Sanborn Hockey, local churches and Kingston Dog Park.

Holden also suggested that Newton Rec have a table including the following:  flyers for the logo contest, asking residents for comments and suggestions, sign-up to help with the 2009 road race and fall fair, suggestions for senior events and the e-mail distribution list.

A flyer will be needed for the schools.  Babcock will contact the high school re: students to help for community service.

There will also be games: tug-o-war, 3 legged race, and sack race.

Holden also suggested a bubble pool (small plastic pool with bubble solution and wands) and sidewalk chalk also pumpkin bowling if she can get donated pumpkins.

Holden moved to adjourn at 9:25 pm. Motion carried unanimously.
