Call to order
Chairman Rick Bailey called the meeting to order at 8:08 pm with the following members present: Rick Bailey, Nancy Slombo and Deb Holden. Minutes were recorded and transcribed by secretary/alternate, Lisa Babcock.

Bailey appointed alternate Lisa Babcock for the evening.

Summer Programs
Holden said the golf lessons had started and there was a good turnout.
Bailey said that if there were any calls regarding tennis, have the person go to the tennis courts at the new high school at 6:00 pm on Wednesday.

Bills
Slombo moved to pay the invoices for Screamin’ Green lawn service out of Greenie Park grounds maintenance in the amounts $923.04 and $1,076.88 for mowings between 4/30 and 7/04. Second by Holden. Motion carried unanimously.

Bailey will contact Mike Bonin of NBSA to discuss issues concerning lawn care.  NBSA can request as many mowings as they need, but will have to bear the cost of any mowings above the 26 that Recreation already contracted for.

Bailey moved to release the 2007 encumbered funds in the amount of $1,064.00 paid to John DiFilippo for work relating to the irrigation system at Greenie Park (invoice # 1268). Second by Slombo. Motion carried unanimously.

Since the invoice was for $1,100, NBSA will need to cover the remaining $36.

Slombo moved to pay $405 out of Greenie Park chemical toilets and $135 out of Town Beach chemical toilets to Pete’s Portable (invoice # T277). Second by Bailey. Motion carried unanimously.

Swim director, Jon Holden arrived at 8:30 pm.

Bailey moved to reimburse Deb Holden:
1.      $31.13 out of summer programs for refreshments and supplies for show at packer meadows.
2.      $85.77 out of town beach supplies for lock, paint and supplies for town beach
3.      $49.19 out of summer programs for paper and clipboards for summer schedule and sign-ups.
and Jon Holden $31.26 out of town beach supplies for first aid kit and other supplies for town beach. For a total of $197.35. Second by Slombo. Motion carried 3-0-1 with Holden abstaining.

Swim Program

Jon Holden updated the Commission on the swim program and town beach. There are about 20 children enrolled in swim lessons.

Mr. Holden said he has scheduled the guards to work either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday shifts with all guards and swim aids working on Fridays to cover make-up classes.

Mr. Holden also requested a beach umbrella, the Commission agreed that he could purchase one and be reimbursed.

Mr. Holden informed the Commission that the wooden stockade fence is falling down and becoming a safety concern.  Bailey directed the secretary to send a letter to Whispering Pines expressing the Commission’s concern about the fence and requesting a reply.

Mr. Holden also stated that a new trash barrel is needed.  Slombo said she has one that she will donate for now.  The secretary was directed to contact Alternative Sales to see if they have any industrial grade trash barrels for sale.

Mr. Holden stated that the lifeguards have been raking up the beach, but need a shovel to remove the debris.  He will pick one up.

He also requested lifeguard chairs – so that the life guards look more official and also have back support as they are required to sit on the beach all day long and the picnic tables are uncomfortable.

The Commission reviewed some chairs on-line.

Slombo moved to purchase 2 portable lifeguard chairs (#GS-100 @ $399ea) from the LifeGuardStore.com not to exceed $999 including shipping to be paid out of town beach supplies. Second by Bailey. Motion carried unanimously.

Slombo moved to reimburse Jon Holden $10.50 out of town beach supplies for copies of keys to the beach shed from Harold’s Locksmith. Second by Bailey. Motion carried 3-0-1 with Deb Holden abstaining.

Recreation Credit Card
Babcock asked the Commission about getting a Recreation credit card for purchases.  The Commission requested more information.

Recreation Logo
Bailey said he would like to have a contest for design of a logo for the Recreation Commission.  He will advertise the contest in the Carriage Town News with a submittal deadline of August 15th.

Adjourn
Slombo moved to adjourn at 10:00 pm. Motion carried unanimously.

Respectfully Submitted,

Lisa Babcock,
Secretary
