The Checking income was dues. Expenses were for the electric bill and the filing fee for our 2011 NH Annual Financial Report. The Money Market income was from interest. Old Business:
Amesbury Carriage Festival – Cheryl Saunders said Ron has a low trailer with ramps to take the Hayford Carriage to Amesbury. It has to be there by 11 AM Saturday June 30th. The carriage will be removed on Sunday. Bill asked if anyone wanted to attend the Saturday Barbeque. Nobody could attend. Joyce King, Bill Landry and Ron Saunders found pictures and information on the Hayford Carriage and Hayford family in the Schoolhouse. Bill made sheets to display with the carriage. Karen O’Malley, Diane Morin, Sally Woodman, Ron and Cheryl Saunders will setup the carriage and display. Bill Landry received information from Ann Miles on how to clean the carriage. Karen O’Malley will review the material on cleaning it. Karen O’Malley
and Diane Morin will clean the carriage on Friday June 29th at 1PM.
Grange Stage Curtain – Bill Landry received a response from Jim Doggett that the Grange has done nothing on the curtain issue. If we don’t hear from them when it is time to work on the grant, we will submit the grant application without the Grange curtain.

Reports of Curators & Committee Chairpersons:
Curators: Cheryl Saunders reported the June 3rd open house at the Schoolhouse and the Marshall House Museum went fine. We received $13 in donations. We had approximately 12 visitors at the Schoolhouse and 9 at the Marshall House. The next opening will be in September.
Historian: Courtney Jason explained her school project was to design a museum exhibition. As part of the project she sent out a survey, via email and the Newton Community Facebook page, to determine what people already know and what they are interested in. She distributed copies of her survey and reviewed the results. There are a sizable number of people who are familiar with and interested in Newton’s history. She also had a list of topics people said they were interested in. She will bring the design to the next meeting.
When Courtney was in the Schoolhouse for the Open House, she noticed there were textiles in the cases that could be set up differently to make them last longer. She offered to get the necessary supplies and make the changes. Bill told her to get what she needed and give him the receipts for reimbursement. She also offered to put a patch on the moth hole on the sleeve of the blue jacket.
Archivist: Karen O’Malley reported everything in the small standing case has been accessioned and photographed. There are only a few items in the large case that are not done. The next area to be done will be the Grange items. She asked that if any item(s) are removed from the Schoolhouse that the ID tag should stay on the item. The second PC was not usable when Karen and Mary Riordan went to copy the data files to it. At this time we will use the external drive as the backup.
Programs: Sally Woodman reported the next presentation, Small Towns in NH with a focus on Newton, is Wednesday July 18th at 7PM at the Town Hall. Sally will give Bill the information by the first of July so he can make flyers. Bill Landry will bring water to the presentation. Sally thanked John and Kathy Meserve for making copies of the survey for the presentation. The surveys will be put on the chairs.
Bill Landry reported the results of the survey on what our fall presentation will be. The topic getting the most votes was NH Covered Bridges. The Story of Lizzie Borden was second, Banjos, Bones & Ballads was third and That Reminds Me of a Story was fourth. Sally will contact the NHHC to schedule the presentation.
Other: Karen O'Malley asked if any of the members knew anything about other obelisk stones like Stonehedge in Salem, NH in this area. Some friends of hers had visited Stonehedge in Salem, NH and were told that there were other obelisk stones in this area. Nobody knew of any.

Next Meeting: Monday July 9, 2012 at the Merrimac Savings Bank
