Fourth Annual Autumn Social –
Bill Landry reported this year’s event grossed $2,900, which was a 16% increase over last year and approximately $2,500 net income.  We had 28 sponsors this year.  We had a 38% increase ticket sales over last year.  This was a great success this year in spite of the economic situation.  The cheese platter from Cheryl Saunders and Sally Woodman's Hor d'oeuvers were a great help.   We were close to running out of beverages and food.  Bill recognized John and Kathy Meserve for making this event a success.  Bill stated that this might be the biggest event of the year in Newton. There was discussion of where we would have this event if we outgrew the Bank facility and what the date would be next year, probably October 22, 2011.

New Business:
Archivist position –
Pat Wonson stated that she and Mary Marshall were talking to someone who might be interested in this position.  She indicated she would have more information by the December meeting.   Mike Hughes and Courtney Jason indicated they are interested in this position.  Diane Morin suggested we could have several people sharing this responsibility.

Luminaries for 2011 tree lighting ceremony –
Lisa Fortin suggested that if we do a tree lighting outside the Primary Schoolhouse, we do a Luminaries event.  She showed a copy of a Yankee Magazine article on this type of event.  Mary Riordan explained that in a previous year the Society had a tree lighting event that included decoration creation time for the public before the tree lighting event.  Lisa Fortin suggested the Library could have a decoration event that could be coordinated with the Historical Society Tree lighting and could try to have a Luminary event. This is an event for 2011.   There was discussion on lighting the tree this year.  Marilyn Landry and Sally Woodman offered to buy lights for the tree if the Society would reimburse them.  Bill Landry made a motion to appropriate $100 to purchase lights for the tree this year.  Cheryl Saunders seconded the motion.  The motion passed on a unanimous vote.  Bill Landry nominated Lisa Fortin to head the committee for Luminaries in 2011.  Cheryl Saunders seconded the motion.  The motion passed on a unanimous vote.  Lisa Fortin accepted the position.

Election of Officers for 2011 at December meeting –
Bill Landry reminded the members that we are looking for a President for next year.  Bill committed to finish the Primary Schoolhouse renovations and the Granite State Poker connection because he will still be the Treasurer.  He will be here to help the next President.
