Treasurer’s Report – Bill Landry
Checking account income was $200 transferred from the Money Market account. Expenses were the Electric bill and Bank fees. Bill indicated the bank fees will be reversed because we are a non-profit organization. Money Market account income was from interest. Expenses were for the wall materials for the Schoolhouse and $200 transferred to the Checking account. Marilyn Landry made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Karen O'Malley seconded the motion. The motion passed on a unanimous vote.
Old Business:
Schoolhouse Repairs
Wall Repair / Replacement -- John Neveux worked on the walls this past week. There are 4-5 sheets left to put up. When he is finished we will paint the walls.
Scanning Project – Karen O'Malley reported she, Mary Marsall, Diane Morin and Mary Riordan met to review how to enter the accessioning information into the laptop computer. Karen O'Malley said it has been too hot to work at the Marshall House. She will continue the accessioning when the weather is cooler. Diane Morin put Pat Wonson's “Old Homes” pictures on a USB stick. She explained it could be a shown as a continuous loop presentation or a manual presentation where someone could speak about the houses.
Granite State Poker – Bill Landry reported he is waiting to hear back from the State on this. Bill will meet with the woman from Granite State Poker once he has all the information. He indicated the background checks that town employees and volunteers had done were not the ones needed for this. There are special requirements when it concerns gaming.
Steve Closs Civil War Seminar – Sally Woodman reported she received an email from Steve Closs with his availability. There was discussion on having the event at the Town Hall The consensus was we would not charge admission nor serve refreshments. Mary Riordan made a motion to engage Steve Closs to give a one hour Civil War seminar at a cost of $100. Pat Wonson seconded the
motion. The motion passed on a unanimous vote. Sally will check the on the Town Hall for November 3rd or 10th or 17th and contact Steve Closs to schedule him for 7PM. Karen O'Malley suggested we put this event on the NH Historical Society newsletter. Bill will check on how we do that. Diane Morin suggested putting it on the cable channel, in the Lawrence Eagle Tribune and the Carriage Town News. Bill said we'd also put it on our web page.
New Business:
Marshall House sign replacement – Bill Landry wrote a letter to the Selectman about replacing the sign at the Marshall House. The sign has no writing on one side and is broken. Bill got a quote for $400 to replace the sign. Bill will attend the Selectman's meeting to speak to the request. Ron Saunders noticed another limb had come down at the Marshall House. Cheryl will notify Mike Pivero of the situation.
Fall Social – John Meserve asked if anyone knew when the LaBelle event was going to be held this year so we don't schedule our Fall Social to conflict with it. Nobody had any information on the LeBelle event. Cheryl Saunders offered to find out the date.
NH Historical Society grants – Kathy Meserve asked if anyone noticed the American Heritage Preservation grant for archiving and preserving documents and artifacts in the newsletter that Bill sent out. The deadline for the grant is September 15, 2010. Mary Marshall noted we would need a defined project to apply for a grant. Ron Saunders asked if the repairs of the Primary Schoolhouse would qualify. Bill Landry reminded everyone that we had discussed grants to help pay for the building and we had decided last year not to pursue grants because the grants may have requirements that we are not prepared to do. Kathy Meserve will check the NH Historical Society web site to get more information on the grant.
Other:
Project Coolair – Bill Landry received information from Larry Foote, the Director of Emergency Management, on Project Coolair. This is a program to provide air conditioners or the money to purchase an air conditioner to elderly and disabled people. This information is on cable Channel 20.
Slide on Cable Channel 20 – Bill Landry reported he submitted a new slide to be put on Channel 20. Diane Morin asked how long it should be run. Bill answered “Forever”.
Pig Farm name – Ron Saunders asked if anyone knew the name of the big pig farm that use to be out by the Nichols Farm. There was a side spur to the railroad where they use to bring in garbage from Boston. Mary Marshall gave him a couple of names of people he could ask about it.
Correspondence: Bill Landry received a correspondence from Marion Kelly asking about a tour of the Marshall House. Bill responded to her that we cannot have tours of the Marshall House at this time due to the items from the Primary Schoolhouse being stored there during the repairs.
Cheryl Saunders made a motion to adjourn. Marilyn Landry seconded the motion. The motion passed on a unanimous vote. Bill Landry adjourned the meeting at 7:40 PM.
Next meeting is Monday August 9, 2010 at the Merrimack Savings Bank.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary Riordan, Secretary
