Treasurer’s Report – Bill Landry

Checking account income was from dues.  Expenses were the electric bill, an external hard drive for the scanning project and the quarterly insurance on the Primary Schoolhouse.  Money Market account income was from interest.  Expenses were for the end of the electrical work at the Schoolhouse.  Mary Marshall made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report.  Marilyn Landry seconded the motion.  The motion passed on a unanimous vote.

Old Business:
Non Payment of 2010 Dues --Bill Landry reported that four people did not pay their dues and have been notified that they have been dropped from the mailing distribution list
.
Schoolhouse Repairs

Painting Bill Landry reported all of the windows have been primed.

Wall Repair / Replacement --  John Neveux informed Bill the walls were in worse shape than he originally thought.  He suggested we replace all the walls.  The Executive Committee members present (Bill Landry, Mary Marshall, and Ron Saunders) decided to follow John’s recommendation.  John volunteered to do the work.  He would sheetrock and skim coat the walls with plaster.  Bill said it cost approximately $400 to get the materials to do the job.  Bill showed pictures of before and after.  Bill said we will put something inside the building for John, Nick Giorgi and Rob Hayes for the work they have done.  Mary Marshall suggested we give them a life membership.  Bill said we would give them tickets to our Fall Social event and that we could not have done this much to the building without their help.

Next Steps – After the walls are finished we will paint them.  Ron and Bill will put the big display case in place, then Rob Hayes can finish the floor.  Diane Morin suggested we re-glaze the windows because the panes are loose.  Bill Landry said Nick Giorgi offered to do the glazing for us.  Bill anticipates we may be ready to open the building in a couple of months.  Diane Morin asked if there would be a sub-committee to decide what to display in the Schoolhouse.  Mary Marshall suggested that Ron and Cheryl Saunders, our Curators, should chair that committee.  Diane Morin and Mary Riordan volunteered for the display committee.  Mary Marshall recalled Ed Foy said when we are ready to open the Schoolhouse display he may donate his baseball memorabilia

Scanning Project – Karen O'Malley reported the scanned items were put on the external drive.  Mary Riordan reported she has entered the scanned items into the Accessioning software on the laptop.  The external drive is a backup to the laptop.  She has the instructions written up on how to enter the accession information into the laptop.  Karen O’Malley would like to enter the accession information directly into the laptop instead of writing up the forms.  The committee will meet to review the instructions and continue the project.

Granite State Poker – Bill Landry had nothing new to report.  He needs to contact the State Attorney General office and the IRS.

Placement of Veteran Flags – Bill Landry thanked the folks who placed the flags on veteran’s graves in the Highland, Currierville and Town Hall cemeteries.  The third graders from the Memorial School place flags at the Willow Grove cemetery.

Steve Closs Civil War Seminar – Sally Woodman reported she sent an email to Steve Closs expressing our interest in having him give a seminar in town.  She asked if we were willing to spend the $150.  We need to decide whether we would charge admission and/or have refreshments.  He is not available on November 11th.  There was discussion on having the event in the Town Hall where the maximum number of people is 49 and whether it could be recorded.  Bill will forward his email to Sally.

New Business:

Old Homes of Newton Slideshow – Pat Wonson showed some of her slides of the old homes in Newton.  She took these pictures 20 years ago.  She asked if we thought it would be of value in showing them or whether we should just store them.  There was discussion on making a CD/DVD from the slides.  Karen O’Malley stated she has scanned these pictures from the books.  Pat would be willing to do a presentation on these pictures with her equipment.

Other:

World War II Memorial -- Bill Landry informed the group that the World War II Memorial will be moved to the Cemetery Trustees responsibility.  It will be re-located to the Willow Grove Cemetery.  The memorial has been on the Learning Center property but it is not owned by them.  The Woodsoms originally created the memorial.

Correspondence: Bill Landry received a correspondence from Peter Hatch regarding his search for Whittier ancestors buried in Newton.  Bill passed the requests on to the Cemetery Trustees who have that information.

John Meserve made a motion to adjourn.  Marilyn Landry seconded the motion.  The motion passed on a unanimous vote.  Bill Landry adjourned the meeting at 8:10 PM.

Next meeting is Monday July 12, 2010 at the Merrimack Savings Bank.

Respectfully submitted,

Mary Riordan, Secretary
